The path to the east

According to your map, the only places you can go from Celadon City are south and east. Considering your and Jenny’s efforts were unsuccessful, the bridge to the south is probably still an enormous danger zone for all women… So that means you’re going to the east.

You venture forth in your tube top and denim cutoffs, ready to make Oddish your ace in the hole to beat Erika! Once you pass the city limits, you look down the path and see a bunch of different trainers, either battling each other or looking for a fight. And they’re all using really strong pokemon!

“*EEEEEEEEEEEP* ERIKA SAVE ME!”

You dive into some nearby bushes to avoid their gaze. You were k-kinda hoping to do some private training. Maybe with some wild pokemon instead of the mean trainers you’re usually fighting… Fortunately, the opportunity presents itself as a Sandshrew walks up and growls at you. It looks like there’s a pretty wide meadow out here, so as long as you stay out of view from the path, you should be okay.

“Oddish, go! Use Absorb!”

The wild Sandshrew uses Defense Curl, but it’s ineffective against your Oddish’s Absorb. It goes down quickly, making the difference between a wild pokemon and your awesomely-trained Oddish obvious.

You continue training like this for most of the day. There are ample Sandshrew around, and you can safely battle them out of sight from the trainers on this route. And, with the type advantage of Grass over Ground, Oddish can handle them with ease. Perhaps too easily, since you trained for a full day and it didn’t evolve. Geez, pokemon training is hard!

You return the next day to train some more, swiftly dodging out of sight from any trainers before they can challenge you. But when you reach the field from yesterday, you find something a little bit different than what you expected.
