The need for gold

As Hauk stood at the waterside, the ship on which he had arrived in the background, he began to lay out a plan of action.

If it was one thing Hauk knew for certain about the city, it was that gold was needed if one was to get around. While you could always strong-arm people who were unwilling to provide you with information, that had a tendency of generating unwanted attention.
A bribe was, in such cases, much more usable.

And while Hauk was certain that he could bribe most women without using gold, there was always the possibility that he would be **** to deal with a man. And in such cases, gold was the only currency that Hauk ever intended to use.

At this moment, gold was something which Hauk had precious little of, barely enough to buy himself a proper meal, let alone pay for information.
Thus, acquiring a decent amount of gold would be Hauk’s first priority.

But at the same time, he couldn’t afford to waste time in his search for Thyra. He would have to find a job that would generate a large amount in short time, and one which he could leave without notice.

The first line of work that came into Hauk’s mind was whoring, sleeping with women in exchange for gold. While this might be something which a civilized man might hesitate about doing, Hauk had no problems with it, being raised as sex cleric left little room for Puritanism.
And being a seven feet tall pillar of muscles and virility, with the ability to outlast any mortal woman, Hauk doubted that he would have a hard time gaining clients.

Second, there was always the choice of heading to the nearest tavern and wait for someone to approach him. A crude way of getting work, but he doubted that the method would falter.

Thirdly, a city as big as Gordor would have to have a place where adventurers and swords-for-hire could go and find jobs, a sword-market if you would. There, Hauk would easily find something worthy of pursuing.
