Chapter 5 by TheRandomSN TheRandomSN

Which room should she choose?

The music class

Lurching to the left Christina yanked open the gray steel door to the nearest music classroom and bolted inside, closing the door behind her. Looking around she saw empty students’ desks, the teacher’s desk and an old piano.

I have to hide, Christina thought, remembering her pursuers. She sped towards the teachers desk, pushed the chair aside and slipped underneath the desk. The footwell of the desk was enclosed on the front by a wooden board, hiding Christina except her feet. She pulled the chair back in place a second before the door opened.

“She has to be around here somewhere,” she heard a boy’s voice.

“Why? She could have made it to the other hallway before we got here and turned the corner.”

“That hallway’s full of people, we’d hear them making noise if they saw her. You heard what people around us were like.”

“Well yeah… “

Footsteps started heading towards her, slowly. Christina was up on her toes under the desk, the balls of her feet starting to ache. She prayed they didn’t bend down and look under the desk.

“Come on, man,” the second voice said. “We need to get to class. I can’t be late too often, they’ll kick me off the track team.”

“This isn’t a little more interesting than track?”

“Maybe not, but besides, that girl really didn’t look to happy about things when she got shoved out of the bathroom. We should probably just leave her alone.”

A pause, then “Yeah, I guess you’re right. Softie.”

The footsteps receded and Christina heard the door open and close. She held in place for a minute and the class bell rang.

She allowed herself a sigh of relief, and that was when she realized a few tears and streamed down her cheeks. She dried her eyes and took a deep breath. She’d have to think of a way to get out of this situation.

Is Christina's day going to get better or worse?
