"This is such a nice change of pace," Cindy remarked after sitting down at her desk.

"Why's that?" Jennifer asked as she adjusted the chair at her desk.

"It's going to be so much less hectic than my residency at Brigham and Women's Hospital," Cindy answered.

"I definitely don't miss my time at residency," Jennifer agreed. "What about you, Jon?"

"Being an ER doctor at Massachusetts General Hospital was..." he paused for a moment to find the proper words before continuing, "... an experience that I found more harrowing than as a SEAL."

"Really?" the other doctors gasped in unison.

"On any given day, two to three nurses at the hospital are assaulted by patients," Jon revealed. "The incidents range from a shove or a kick to verbal harassment and even threats by patients."

"Were you ever hurt yourself?" Cindy asked with genuine concern.

"Luckily no," he replied, "but I got into a few tussles with violent patients before security arrived."

"Thanks to your Navy SEAL training, right?" Lauren wondered.

"Yeah," he nodded, "but I got pulled aside by HR because it would be a legal liability if I hurt the patient."

"Well, I'm glad I'm a researcher!" Hane proclaimed.

Jonathan stifled a yawn.

"Did I bore you?" Hane smirked.

"No, I've just been awake for over thirty hours," he replied.

"Why?" Cindy gasped.

"I just couldn't sleep last night."

"Insomnia?" Angela asked.

"Not really," he shrugged. "I just wanted to be outside and enjoy the stars one last time..."

"You were outside all night?" Jennifer inquired.

"This is nothing," Jonathan shrugged. "I've been sleep deprived for five days while running, paddling, climbing, and swimming in freezing water during my SEAL training."

"But you're not a SEAL or an ER doctor right now, Jon," Cindy scolded him. "You're now a NASA astronaut and member of this crew!"

Jonathan did not bother protesting because he knew she was right.

"You should get some sleep, Jon," Lauren suggested.

"Doctor's orders?" he asked.

"I'm not your doctor," Lauren replied. "Just a concerned colleague."

"If you are going to stay up, I might as well gather data from you on sleep deprivation, circadian misalignment, and performance impairment arising from fatigue," Hane proposed.

"First day of the project and I'm already a guinea pig," he chuckled as he followed Hane to the medical bay.

"Don't worry, Jon, we're all guinea pigs here," Jennifer smiled.
