The longest night

You couldn’t sleep how could you in your moment of utter weakness you had hurt Harmony obviously she had formed a psionic bond a link with you something far stronger than before strong enough that she had experienced everything you had felt the minute she touched your shoulder.

You looked up as the moon shined its light through Harmony’s window casting long shadows behind the pile of notes and paperwork she had neatly piled onto her desk. You felt helpless here she was in your arms and yet you couldn’t do anything to help except hold her. As the night dragged on you couldn’t help but feel like this was all your fault.

Maybe it would be better if you distanced yourself from Harmony she was a bright and beautiful woman she didn’t deserve you much less the emotional baggage and the scars you carried with you everywhere you went.

As you contemplated your next move Harmony snuggled into your arms tightly afraid you would disappear while still asleep. She had long since tired herself out and now seemed to be fighting a nightmare. As you stroked her blond hair you realized she was suffering because of your mistakes and you couldn’t just sit idly by and allow it to happen no not on your watch.

As you stroked her hair you began muttering incantations tapping into the bond you shared with Harmony and began entering her mind. Looking around you wandered through her subconscious finding her worst fears you began making your way to the twilight.

Upon entering her nightmare you could see her crying as her peers and a version of you laughed at her while her father looked on without a care in the world. Stepping forward you placed a hand onto the floor and closed your eyes. The nightmare slowly faded and in your mind it appeared beginning to torment you instead.

Opening your eyes once again you knew you would never be the same again but for Harmony no price, no burden, no trial was beyond you. For her she was one of the few people who connected you to this world and without her and the connections you know you would have made what your father did look like amateur hour.

As you continued stroking her blond hair you could feel her physically relax in your arms. You had taken her pain her nightmares and bore that fear for her no one would hurt her not if you had any say in it.

You kissed her head holding her tightly as wondered what could you do. Against this burden you carried deep inside of you. You thought it had been sealed away and yet here you laid hurting and causing pain to the one you loved most.

Perhaps this is the price you would pay for your father’s mistakes, perhaps the universe saw fit to taunt you in this way making you and everyone you love destined to suffer in this way. As you wallowed in your sadness however Harmony stirred awakening as you held her close before she remembered what had happened.

Harmony was quiet as she listened to Nathan’s shaky breathing as he continued to stroke her hair believing her to be asleep. Then she felt a single tear fall onto her hair before another and another. Mustering her bravery she opened her eyes to see Nathan’s own eyes closed tears falling once again.

Moving she sat up and leaned against her boyfriend before speaking. “I don’t know what this is but Nathan don’t even think about fighting this alone again you hear me?” Harmony’s own voice becoming shaky as she continued speaking. “Whatever this is we will get through this together you hear me.” She said as tears fell from her own eyes. Nathan only nodded holding her as the two students held each other long into the night.
