Chapter 4 by Thotar Thotar

What happens next?

The initiates receive their invitations

Pale blue eyes opened slowly, as Weiss was the first of her team to wake up on their day off. It was traditional for Beacon to make the first week of classes only 4 days, meaning Team RWBY had a long weekend for bonding.

Weiss was used to waking up early in the mornings, while the rest of her team certainly enjoyed sleeping in. After a long week of arguing, Weiss decided it was best to be courteous to them. Still, she wasn't one to sleep when she could study, so she swung her nightgown-clad legs over the edge of her bed.

As quietly as she could, Weiss gathered her outfit, the usual of course, for the day and moved towards the bathroom. Just as she was reaching for the handle, Weiss noticed something out of the corner of her eye. Laid neatly on her desk were four white envelopes.

Weiss carefully picked one up. It was pure white and didn't have an address of any sort. The only identifying information on the plain side was a name written in flowing cursive script. The one in her hand was addressed to one Ruby Rose. More importantly though, these hadn't been there last night. Had someone broken into their room? The thought caused Weiss to carefully check around the rooms darkened corners, but it seemed secure enough.

Turning her attention back to the letter, Weiss carefully set Ruby's letter down and picked up her own. Each teammate had seemingly received one, which Weiss supposed lowered the chance of this being a stalker... Or Arc.

When she looked closer at her name written across the front, Weiss could see that whoever had written Ruby's had also written the rest of them. Turning the letter over caused her to gasp. The side of the letter with the opening had an intricate wax seal. It seemed to be a logo of sorts. It looked similar to a Queen piece from a chess set, but much more detailed until it.

'Could this really be...?' Weiss thought excitedly to herself. She had seen the symbol a few times before. It'd been seen exclusively on Winter's private correspondences. Winter had talked about a club that she was a part of, but never elaborated further beyond expressing her desire for Weiss to also join it when she became a huntress. Could this letter be from Winter's secretive club?

She willed herself to slow down and look closer at the seal. The technology of the the seal was surprisingly advanced, to the surprise of Weiss. Instead of being a traditional wax seal, the sender had somehow innovated on a centuries old technology using dust. It appeared to be some sort of locking mechanism using a combination of gravity dust mixed with... fire dust?

The purple gravity dust filled the inner circle of the seal. It was about the size of a thumbprint. Around it was a ring of white that separated the red fire dust from the gravity dust inside. Weiss' eyes widened as she realized the genius behind this lock.

It was commonly believed that the white crystalline husks left behind from dust usage were completely without use. However, that wasn't completely true. Recent breakthroughs in the security industry had discovered that white dust could be used to store incredibly small traces of aura signatures. Strangely enough, a single crystal would only conduct a person's unique aura signal a single time. After which, it would actually work as an insulator and prevent that person's aura from flowing through it again.

If Weiss was understanding this correctly, the white dust on the outside had been charged with a certain person's aura. If that person sent aura through the gravity dust, it would release its hold on the letter and open. However, if someone else did it, it wouldn't be insulated by the white dust, causing the fire dust to also activate... It was a simple but highly effective seal. So simple in fact, that she knew beyond a doubt that the R&D department of the SDC had not discovered this. That meant that whoever was sending the letter had tech that rivaled the largest corporation on Remnant.

'The letter is in my name but... Did someone really have a sample of my aura in order to correctly configure this? The only group that would have that on file is Beacon. How curious...' Weiss thought.

Beacon had no reason to send a letter in such a discrete format, nor to use such a secretive locking technology. Did this mean that the letter was sent from an entity within Beacon, but not the school itself? Weiss supposed thinking about it anymore was point. The answers she desired would be inside that letter, as long as she was brave enough to open it. Weiss slowly pressed her thumb to the purple center, being careful to not contact anything beyond the white seal.

With a small pulse of her aura, the gravity dust reversed its state. Its grip on the envelope was disabled and the seal completely disengaged itself from the letter without a trace. Weiss pulled out it's contents carefully. Inside was a plain letter. Turning it around revealed no more obvious traps or intricacies.

Weiss began to carefully read the letter that had been left for her in such a secretive way:

'Dear Weiss Schnee,

We have noticed your talents. As a huntress, you have shown exceptional talent and nobility. Beacon will greatly benefit your skills, but we have even more resources to offer. Beacon will make you a huntress. We will make you elite.

This letter is a formal invitation to join the most ancient and exclusive network of huntresses in all of Remnant. We offer training, connections, and a purpose; should you wish to follow our path and traditions.

There will be a formal gathering tonight in the Beacon coliseum at 8pm. Bring your combat gear and any teammates who were also invited.

Our existence is not a public one. If you remain interested in joining, we ask that you maintain this secrecy, except to others on your team who have also been selected.

Although it is not required, many members of our organization came recommended from an active member. While this grants you no additional bonus, privilege, or honor we believe it is important to inform you that your selection was aided by Winter Schnee, current mistress of the Atlas branch. We hope in time that it becomes clear what an honor they have bestowed upon you.

P.S. Should you wish to destroy this letter and hide it's contents, tap the seal to the center of the letter.

Signed,

VSS'

Weiss carefully set the letter down and leaned back. After taking a second to process it, she knew she could only have one response. Weiss took a deep breath and, with a lack of decorum her father would have slapped her for, squealed with joy. She was quickly hit with a pillow by a groaning Yang, but it had absolutely been worth it.

"What the fuck, Weiss! It's 8 am!" Yang complained. Ruby and Blake groaned their agreement with the blonde bombshell, although without the swearing.

"We got invited! Look!" Weiss said, holding up her letter.

"What are you even talking about?" Blake asked from under her pillow. Ruby and Yang recognized the seal immediately and reacted audibly. In an instant, Ruby had crossed the gap of the room and was in Weiss' lap. Weiss gasped at the realization that Ruby had only worn panties and a T-shirt to bed, leaving her bare legs to press against Weiss' own. Before Weiss could even complain, Ruby was holding her own letter and was clearly as ecstatic as Weiss had been. Despite how cute her celebration was, or how nice her soft rear felt against the top of her thighs, Weiss shoved Ruby off of her. Ruby seemed too excited to care.

Yang took her time getting down, but fortunately didn't sit in Weiss' lap, to the immense relief of Weiss. She was sure the two sisters would be the **** of her bisexual heart. Yang's reaction was similarly joyful, although she always handled her excitement differently than Ruby did.

Despite being nearly twins in age, Ruby and Yang were both very different people. From what she'd seen in the last week of living together, Ruby was reserved with people she didn't know, but quickly grew comfortable. Once she was comfortable, she was incredibly agitating, but in the way that brought a smile to Weiss. What had surprised Weiss the most about her leader was how suddenly Ruby's personality could harden into steel as cold as her eyes. When they were in the field, Ruby was the embodiment of a huntress. She was deadly, serious, and focused.

Weiss and Ruby had both made a bad first impression on each other before initiation. Weiss thought the girl had been acting childish, but it was clear to Weiss now that aspect of her personality stopped when she was on duty. Immediately after their first team expedition, Weiss had shed any doubts about Ruby's capability as a leader.

Physically, Ruby's figure was defined by her huntress activities. She was maybe 5'5", but every aspect of her build seemed optimized for speed and strength. Weiss hadn't exactly been snooping, but from the few glimpses she'd have, Ruby had quite a bit going on. Her body was much more lithe than Yang, but frankly Weiss was a bit jealous of how Ruby's toned form was Weiss' ideal figure.

Ruby and Yang had a sibling rivalry that Weiss had never experienced with her own sister. Everything seemed to be a competition with each other, but it was strangely loving? Weiss wasn't sure that was the right word to use to describe their little competitions, but she didn't know what else could. They'd competed against each other slaying Grimm, throwing grapes into the others mouths, and on their school grades.

Weiss was surprised that Yang's carefree attitude could ever compete with the deadly steel of Ruby's, but Ruby rarely showed that side of her with Yang. When they were together it was like they were both content with being carefree in each other's presence. They still had their sibling issues though, especially when it came to getting ready...

Blake stirred Weiss out of her thoughts (and ended her staring at her teammates pajama clad forms.)

"What's got you three so excited?" Blake asked tiredly, still managing to roll out of bed with nearly feline grace.

"Read this. Pulse your aura through the purple dust, make sure you don't touch the fire dust." Weiss explained to the black themed girl.

Blake carefully eyed the letter in her hand, but curiosity seemed to take over her caution as she did as Weiss asked. She spent the next few minutes reading and rereading while her team continued to be giddy.

"Am I missing something? Doesn't this seem a bit sketchy to you?" She asked, confusion evident in her voice.

"I guess it would be for you, Blake, since you don't come from a huntress family. They can't really tell us too much, but they were really enthusiastic about us joining." Ruby explained.

"My elder sister is also a member, but she hasn't even mentioned it." Weiss added.

"Does that mean you guys are wanting to join?" Blake asked.

"Yup! I want to at least go to the introduction night. We can decide what we think after." Ruby said, Weiss and Yang nodded along.

"That's agreeable enough, I suppose. Do you at least know any details about what this club actually does?" Blake asked.

"I know its great for meeting powerful huntresses across the world, but besides that, I'm not sure." Weiss admitted.

"Its also where mom finds most of her spars ever since she retired. She doesn't talk about it past that though." Ruby explained, a fond smile forming at the mention of her mother.

"If its worth it for mom, than its definitely worth it for us." Yang argued. Neither Weiss nor Blake could disagree with that statement. Summer was a very well known figure amongst huntress circles. She may not have the political power that some huntresses did, but her feats spoke for her true power. Despite being retired, few would ever be the ones to doubt the abilities of such a living legend.

"So we're in agreement then? About going to the first meeting and deciding from there?" Ruby looked for her team's consensus. They all nodded, only Blake showing a bit of hesitancy.

Pyrrha had found the letter when she'd woken for her morning run. Its placement in her locker made her immediately think of a potential admirer, but the intricate seal on the front made her doubt that theory. After a few minutes of fiddling, she managed to get the mechanism open.

Now, she was tucked beneath a quiet tree on campus reading and rereading it. The message seemed a bit sketchy, but Pyrrha supposed it was trust worthy enough. It wasn't trying to disarm her, nor attempting to get her alone. Besides, she was a generational fighting talent, what could the sender of the letter possibly do to her?

Most importantly though, was that the letter had stirred an incredible amount of curiousness into the amazon. She just had to know what kind of club would necessitate such a secretive letter. She would definitely be attending tonight's meeting.

When Cinder saw the three letters laid on her desk, she immediately grew a smile and politely sent Mercury out of the room. Surprisingly enough, he seemingly jumped at the chance to get away from the three psychotic women he lived with.

"Emerald. Neo." Cinder named as she passed out each of the letters. Both girls took the messages with curious looks.

"Do you know what's inside these?" Emerald asked hesitantly. To be frank, Emerald was still a bit scared of team CMSN's team leader, even after a week of knowing her. She didn't seem outright evil or malicious, but Emerald could feel the ambition radiating off Cinder. Ambition wasn't exactly a bad thing, but it certainly made her opportunistic... and potentially dangerous.

"I have a theory, but we might as well just open them; in case I'm wrong." Cinder said. Neo recognized the look on Cinder's face. It was the face of a woman whose plan had just been executed perfectly. Neo didn't know what to make of that.

"Press your thumb to the purple and activate your aura." Cinder told them, soon the girls were each reading their invitations. Cinder's smile grew with each line, eventually turning into a wicked smirk.

"So this is some kind of club? Is that what has you so excited?" Emerald asked. Neo nodded her agreement to Emerald's question.

Cinder shook her head. She held the letter up with a flair. "You misunderstand, ladies. This isn't just a club. This is power."

Emerald and Neo both shared a look after seeing the expression on their leader's face. Despite not knowing each other before Beacon, all three girls shared a similar background. They came from nothing, but desperately wished to change that. They may have had different definitions of power, but Emerald knew that if something had Cinder this excited, it would bring them plenty of power.

The expression on Cinder's face meant there was only one answer either girl would give, or that Cinder would accept.

"I guess we'd better see what they're all about then." Emerald said carefully. Neo nodded just as cautiously, but Cinder? Cinder only smiled.
