Will the team succeed?
The group make a valiant effort.
"If the ship cloak is on, we need to get those engines sabotaged ASAP!" Bethan announced.
LaSalle lit her plasma torch and within a minute had a hole in the ground big enough to fit a person. "Careful, it's still hot," she warned as she tossed me the welder and hopped into the hole with its edges still glowing molten orange.
"Good luck!" Bethan told us before jumping in after Jenny.
I took the torch to the most **** spot I could think of; the door. More distinctly, the transparent view window. I sliced through the material easily enough and when it was cool enough to touch again, I poked my head out to see. There was no one in the hallways, thankfully. I turned to the side to find the access panel. So there was a way to open the door from the outside. I moved back into the room and stuck my arm out the reach the panel. "I can't reach..." I lamented.
"Maybe I can," Barberi suggested. She was taller and had a longer arm span, so I let her have a try. Her face was in deep concentration as her arm reached out. I could hear faint chirping of the console responding, followed by a flatlined buzz. Barberi frowned and concluded, "It be locked with a pass code of some sort..."
Just then, there was a rumble as the ship suddenly powered down for a moment and then flickered to life again. Chief Bethan and Jenny must have succeeded in sabotaging the engine room.
Barberi gave me a curious look and said, "You think that may have reset the pass code system?" With the power still flickering back to life, Barberi gave the access panel another try. The door hissed open. We both exclaimed, "Yes!" as the door proceeded slide to the side, taking Barberi with it. "Ah! Help!" she yelled out in pain. She was trying to push the door open to keep it from crushing her arm. I ran out and tried to help push it out while also trying to get the door to close again. After a few taps, the door managed to hiss shut and Barberi yanked her arm away, clutching it in noticeable pain.
"Are you alright? " I asked her, peering in form the outside.
"I'll be fine," she assured me. "Just go and get that cloaking system down!"
I nodded, knowing that Barberi would be safe in the room for now. I navigated the hallway until it led to a split. I picked the left side and followed it some more until I reached the room with the captive Hrmgnnr. It was still in the tank, resting. From here I recalled the directions to the cockpit from Jaquon's tour. When I reached the room, I found it open and empty. Jaquon must have went to investigate the engines. I hoped that Jenny and Bethan would be alright. I quickly searched around for cloaking system. I sat down in the pilot's seat and started flicking switches. This control panel was alien to me and I didn't know what did what, but I knew if I messed around with it enough, it would either uncloak or cause enough trouble to get noticed. A spread of torpedoes rocketed out into the nothingness of space. That was something to get noticed. I activated the torpedoes again. If the Ishtar was in the vicinity, they would easily take notice of this. I tried it again, but nothing happened. If anything, I at least emptied Jaquon's torpedo arsenal. I tried flicking more switches when a beam struck me in the back of the head. I got up to run instinctively, but the pistol had down it's damage and my body shut down. _It was a stun beam... He must still want to sell us... _I thought to myself as I drifted into unconsciousness.
Did they do enough to get the Ishtar's attention?
