The group investigates tactically

Zhang immediately puts his leadership to work. "Okay here's the game plan boys... and girl. The three of us with guns are going to take positions away from the door. Rachel I'm going to have you on the intercom asking the 'person' to identify themselves. If there's no answer, open the door. As soon as that piece of metal moves, come back to us. Any questions?"

Nobody says a word. The pounding is now becoming incessant.

"Outstanding, let's do it."

The trio scrambles to take positions behind long lab tables. Once they're well dug in and all spread out you make your way to the intercom. "Hey out there!" you exclaim.

The knocking ceases. You wait a little bit to see if there's an additional reaction. Nothing.

"Okay I'm going to open the door now." you say to the silence. You place your hand on the doorpad. As soon as the hissing starts you dash back to a lab table where Jackson is. You turn back to see a 7-foot hulking mutant stepping forward from the doorway about twenty meters down. It's covered in scales and fur, yet its forearms and hands look human. That is if you don't consider the razor sharp claws. Its large flaccid cock is something that doesn't look like it's designed for a human female. Silence permeates the room. The beast breathes heavily as it surveys the four of you with its horned head. When his eyes come into contact with yours it lets out a chilling roar and charges towards you.

It makes a surprisingly fair distance before a symphony of gunfire pierces the air. Over a dozen medium caliber pulse rounds rip into the beast's flesh. Nine make their way into its torso, two through its nose, and one chips a horn on its head. The creature lets out a yelp and falls flat on its face. A pool of black blood starts to spread underneath the fresh corpse.

Zhang leaves his table and cautiously moves to the kill, his rifle still sighted on it. The other two soldiers follow suit. Once he believes that the beast will no longer move, the sergeant nods. "Okay, so that thing isn't invincible. This is a promising start."

"This thing looks like a cross between an ape, horned lizard, and human, what the hell..." Jackson comments.

You remember hearing jokes about Dr. Stewart researching several "monster projects" he wanted to pursue, ones that would exist only in horror movies.

The sergeant doesn't seem to mind. "Wax candle's burning. We need to get moving now; I wouldn't be surprised if we're going to be stuck here longer than we'd like. Rachel you can come with us but nobody's forcing you. Would be nice having you tag along seeing how you know this place better."

You think for a moment. There is something unknown growing in you. Maybe you don't want to be a liability.
