Chapter 36 by SkyDreamer SkyDreamer

So... Does Digit hide outside in the dark?

The glistening viridian jewel must be hers!

Once she had noticed the gemstone, Digit found herself entirely unable to pry her eyes away from it. Even as she was aware of pressing matters taking place at the cabin, her green eyes remained fixated on the green rock.

Before she really knew what she was doing, she had dived into the fountain and emerged clutching the rupee. Only once she had climbed back out onto the rim and shook her wings dry did her mind really come back into focus. She didn't really know what had compelled her to take the stone; it just felt right that she have it!

What's more, now that she did have it, she felt an odd obligation to do someone a favour in return...

The girl! The spider! Focus, Digit! She slapped herself with her free hand, which knocked her sideways when a damp cloth introduced itself to her entire body.

"Wa- mmf!" Her scream was quickly muffled beneath the impromptu blanket. She quickly pushed it off herself and sat up. So I grabbed that while I was down there too, I guess??

She pinched the bridge of her nose and groaned. Too many things going on... Focus! Itemise, process, prioritise!

So the pregnant girl had been attacked by the spider. It could have just been a tug on the web making it drop, but the gusto with which it had gone at the door with afterwards... it had intent.

Could Digit still consider this a scripted scenario for the sake of a test? There wasn't a lot of evidence supporting that, if she was completely honest. There was more evidence that this wolf-girl could be someone like her: alone in the woods, trying to survive, beset by monsters. Maybe she lived here, or maybe she'd been transported here just like Digit. If the latter, then talking to her might reveal a lot about what was really going on here.

She looked back at the cabin. The spider was scuttling about on the wall, tapping at the windows, but it looked like the girl would be safe for nowwwwwpe! Never mind! Digit had just noticed that one of the front-facing windows was smashed open!

It was on the opposite side of the cabin from the spider, for now. But if it was still intent on getting inside, it would be making its way over there soon, and Glitter help the poor girl inside once it did!

Could Digit help? Should Digit help? There was that favour she owed for the rupee, for whatever reason... but seriously, could she do anything?

Ok, what do I have? A gem, a wet cloth, and prestidigitation. Time to get creative, Digit!

She felt like holding onto the gem for now if she could, so her first target was the cloth. She could dump it on the spider? Maybe it'd get all tangled up? Though if even a small fairy like Digit could just push it off of herself, a spider that size probably wouldn't struggle too much. Put it up over the broken window to seal it? If only she had some way of attaching it in place, that was...

The cloth alone wouldn't cut it. She'd have to fall back on old reliable. Her greatest weapon, and also her only weapon: the ever-versatile prestidigitation spell!

As she quickly ran through its possible uses in her head, one stuck out that drew her mind back to the way the spider had been acting. It hadn't seen or heard the wolf-girl, it had only responded when a web was tripped. So its eyes and ears probably weren't that great, but it seemed unlikely that it would be able to get by solely on touch. It probably had smell & taste to rely on as well!

If she used prestidigitation to make the cloth taste like food and then threw it in the web, it might trick the spider and distract it long enough for the wolf-girl to escape. Maybe eating the cloth would even poison it and turn it into a non-issue altogether!

Digit didn't know what flies tasted like, but a spider of that size had undoubtedly caught fairies before. She suppressed her revulsion at the thought, as she tried to keep her mind focused on how this fact worked to her advantage. With a quick lick, she ran her tongue over her arm. Fairy flesh tasted pretty similar to that of most humanoids, with the main exception being that all instances of salt had been replaced by the sweetness of sugar. Her sweat was akin to a watery syrup.

Focusing on her flavour, she prepared to channel it into the cloth... but paused. What if the spider wasn't hungry? Then the whole plan fell apart!

She'd tried not to notice it, but the cocktula had been waving around a certain appendage ever since it had dropped. What if landing on the wolf-girl's ass hadn't been by chance? What if it was trying to satisfy a different craving right now?

Blech. Digit had an idea, but she hated it.

She didn't have the luxury of dawdling though. That spider was still on the move; the clock was ticking!

She scooched her butt backwards on the fountain edge and spread her legs as wide as she could. Reaching down between them, she traced a finger over her labia, before begrudgingly pushing it inside. Aside from the fountain water she was almost entirely dry down there, so she moved her digit slowly and carefully. Getting deep enough to bump against her hymen, she wriggled her finger around a little, hoping that it would be able to soak itself in what little juices there were, before pulling it back out and looking at it.

While there wasn't much, the sheen on her finger definitely wasn't just water. She almost retched at the thought of what came next. Taking a deep breath, she steeled her resolve and thrust her finger into her mouth.

She grimaced, hard! The overwhelming sweetness was revolting, and it took all of her willpower to not vomit straight into the fountain! Pulling her finger from her mouth, she quickly waved her hands and incanted while the taste still lingered. Though she'd be lucky if she could ever forget it...

Well, now she had something that was dripping wet and tasted like her pussy. That alone might be enough to fool the spider...

She glanced back at it. It was still probing the house, but still hadn't reached the broken window. Digit still had time.

Just in case the spider was smarter than she gave it credit for, she decided to shape the cloth into a makeshift doll. Nothing overly complex, just a few twists here and there to make the vaguest resemblance of limbs...

(1 action point: cast prestidigitation on cloth)

(1 action point: shape cloth into doll)

While Digit tries to craft fake life, Hana is creating real life...
