Taking in your new look and making plans.

The girl in the mirror

You stand there. You just stand there, heels clicking faintly as you shift your weight, staring at the full-length mirror mounted on Chloe's closet door.

The person looking back at you is—you. Undeniably you. Same hazel eyes, same slightly upturned nose, same jawline that's always been a touch too soft for a guy. But everything around those familiar features has been... enhanced. Polished. Transformed into something you don't have a framework for.

This isn't real. This is a dream. I fell asleep cleaning and I'm having some kind of stress-induced hallucination.

But the silk of the blouse is real against your skin—you can feel it shifting with every breath, the fabric so light it's like wearing nothing at all, except nothing at all wouldn't cling to your chest this way. The lace bra underneath is a constant, delicate pressure. The skirt swishes when you move even slightly, a soft whisper of chiffon against your thighs. The stockings are sheer and smooth, and you can feel the faint tension of the garter clips holding them in place. The heels—God, the heels—have already started making your calves ache in a way you've never experienced.

Your hair. Your stupid, overgrown hair that you kept meaning to cut. LUXE washed it, conditioned it with something that smelled like jasmine and vanilla, blow-dried it with professional precision, and styled it into soft, glossy waves that frame your face and fall past your shoulders in a way that looks... intentionally feminine. Not like a guy who hasn't gotten a haircut in eight months. Like a girl who spent forty-five minutes on it.

The makeup is the worst part. Or maybe the best part, depending on how you measure these things. Your lashes are dark and defined, your lids dusted with a soft champagne shimmer, your cheekbones highlighted with something that catches the bedroom's warm light. Your lips are a muted rose-pink, matte and precise. You look like you belong in a magazine spread about "effortless natural beauty"—which is somehow more unsettling than if you looked like a drag queen.

Okay. Okay. Think. You have a psychology degree. You can problem-solve this.

You take a step back from the mirror and immediately wobble on the heels. Your hand shoots out to grab Chloe's vanity chair for balance, and the motion sends the skirt swishing around your knees again. The earrings—small gold hoops with tiny dangling crystals—swing against your jaw.

"Good evening, Chloe," comes HAVEN's calm, measured voice from somewhere overhead. "I've detected you've completed your evening LUXE session. Would you like me to prepare the guest bedroom for sleep, or shall I set the climate control for your preferred nighttime temperature?"

You open your mouth. Close it. Open it again.

"I'm not—"

"Your sleep schedule indicates a preferred bedtime of 10:30 PM," HAVEN continues pleasantly. "Shall I dim the lights gradually to assist with your wind-down routine?"

The phone in your—wait, where is your phone? You pat the skirt. Nothing. You glance around and spot it on the vanity where you must have left it earlier. The text from Aunt Vanessa still glows on the screen. You pick it up, the motion awkward with the long nails LUXE glued onto your fingers.

This is fine. This is completely fine. I just need to find my actual clothes, explain to the robot closet that I'm not Chloe, and—

You turn back toward LUXE's entrance. The panel beside it now reads: "Session complete! Next recommended session: Morning Routine, 7:00 AM." Below that, in smaller text: "Current look: Everyday Look. To change, simply step back in!"

The door to the hallway is right there. The mansion stretches out beyond it—beautiful, clean, and entirely controlled by an AI that currently thinks you're your twenty-one-year-old female cousin
