The gazebo

It's so quiet in the gazebo and you can hear the insects in the forest all around you. It's a good thing you knew your way to the gazebo, since the footpath leading to it has now been mostly covered by overgrown grass, or else you might not have found it. It's still light out, but the sun is setting and you wish you had brought a flashlight or something to ward off the incoming darkness.

You look at your phone. It's been slightly more than an hour since you'd left the library and Pammy is late. Of course, the moment you had left the library, you had looked up the name James Danker, the guy Pammy mentioned and seemed concerned about. It wasn't difficult to find a local news article about it, although it was pretty brief. Apparently, Danker is a student at the college, and about 2 weeks ago at a college party, had jumped off a diving board into the pool. What was newsworthy about that, was the pool was frozen and he dove straight into a thick layer of ice and fractured his neck and spine in several places. The strange thing about the incident was, that it was summer and there was no way the pool should frozen. In fact, it had taken a week for the ice in the pool to completely thaw, a phenomenon that puzzled everyone and the reason why the freak accident was reported in the news.

Having already seen a little of what Pammy is capable of, you have no doubt that she had something to do with the mysterious incident. If you had to guess, she probably cast a spell to freeze the pool, although she likely didn't expect Danker to get so badly injured.

There's nowhere to sit in the gazebo except for an old, round, wooden table in the middle of it that's bolted to the base of the structure, and you're sitting on it, facing the direction where you expect Pammy to appear. The longer you wait, the more you think this is a bad idea since she has already cast a spell to negate the effects of your magic rings on her. As a precaution, you're ready to teleport away if you sense danger, but you're starting to wonder if she could somehow prevent you from doing that too. All of that, plus her unknown magical abilities, makes you more nervous than you've been in a while. Since coming into possession of the magic rings, you're used to being in control. Now, at best, you're on equal standing with Pammy. The thing working for you is that she probably has questions of her own about your abilities.

You're thinking Pammy might not be coming, when you hear a twig snap in the direction of the campus, and you look up to see someone approaching.
