Pick a theater story below

The first audition

Abbie had seen a number of shows and concerts at The Community Players over her first few years in town. She always enjoyed attending the theater, almost regardless of the quality of the piece. It was just fun to dress up a little and go out for the night. The shows would often have good stories, music, some fun costumes to look at.

Abbie got the impression -- from hearing people talking the lobby, from meeting a few of the actors over the years -- that the community was very close, supportive, and welcoming of new people.

She learned that they were going to be holding auditions for a new play, and one of the characters sounded a lot like her -- young, cute, cheerful, and smart. After debating for a while, she decided to take a chance and audition for the show.

The auditions were taking place at the theater on a Thursday night. She had called to find out the details, and learned that they were going to read a short scene and maybe improvise something. "The play is so new," said the director over the phone, "that we don't have all of the script to read yet."

Abbie thought it sounded interesting, but she had no idea how to prepare! She wasn't a natural storyteller -- but once she got going, she was definitely a good conversation! She hoped that maybe the audition session would be a group discussion, and she'd be inspired by someone else there.
