Chapter 10

Where do you patrol?
The docks
This time you decide to focus your attention on the shipping area of your sector. Similarly to your first stakeout, you find a place atop a building and scope out the area. Unlike last time though, something happens almost right away. From your perch, you see a black limousine pull up in front of one of the boats. Odd place for a limo. A man flanked by two armed guards descends the ramp from the boat to meet his guests. The driver walks around and opens the door. A girl steps out, maybe 20 years old, wearing a tight white top and a short skirt. Her long blonde hair is pulled into a thick braid down her back all the way to her waist. You wonder if she just came from tennis lessons or something as she even has a white visor to complete the outfit. From your vantage point, you can't tell what they are saying, but the tennis girl signals to her driver and he pulls a briefcase out of the limo. He opens it, and even at your distance, you can tell there's cash inside. Lots of it. One of the man's guards takes the case as two other men appear on the deck of the boat carrying a long, flat case, about the size of a piano keyboard. You have no idea what's in the case, but clearly tennis girl and boat guy are into some shady business. And it's my job to stop them.
With at least a few armed men and a whole lot of open area between you and them, it would be risky to try to Flame the whole way in. You'd be lit up like a Christmas tree in more ways than one. Not to mention, there'd be all sorts of time for the limo to get away while you dealt with the ship's crew. You decide a better course of action would be to get in close and then spring a surprise on them to take as many of them out all at once as you can. Then mopping up the scraps shouldn't be too hard. You sigh to yourself as you realize that the best way to infiltrate would be to follow Violet's advice and turn up the sexy. Or at least the slutty.
It would be a little odd if you were just walking around in your sliver bikini, but you can modify your plain outerwear a bit on the fly to enhance your appearance. Your shorts are already tight, super short and practically see thru, but you fold the waistband to make them even shorter and to allow your whale tail to peek over the edge. You turn your plain white tee into a shirt-kini by folding the front through the collar and pulling down while pushing your tits up, with the added bonus of revealing your toned midsection. And to finish off the look, you tie your hair into pigtails (You're a girl. Of course you have extra hair ties on you.). Bimbo transformation complete, you make haste and hop off the building, hurrying toward the crowd next to the limo. One of the guards spots you almost immediately as you turn the corner from around the building, but he lowers his weapon as you get closer and he gets a better look.
"Excuse me!" you yell and wave as you approach the group, making sure your chest is extra bouncy as you jog up.
"Gentlemen, please assist Miss Ace with the remainder of her purchase," the man says to his guards. The two carrying the case finish loading it into the trunk of the limo while the other two ascend the ramp to the boat, presumably to retrieve another case. He smirks and looks amused at your presence, while tennis girl, or Ace as you have just found out, furrows her brow at your intrusion. "Now what can I help you with, dear?" the man asks you, addressing your cleavage.
"Oh thank goodness! I'm running sooo late. It's my first day at the Kitty Kat Lounge and I'm like all turned around." You put yourself in a central location, between the man and the guards who are at the back of the limo. You'll wait until the men return from the boat so that you can hit them all at once with an arc of flames. "Can you like tell me how to get there?" Ace rolls her blue eyes and whispers something to her driver.
"My dear, I'm afraid I am unfamiliar with that establishment," the man replies.
"Boss, that's the strip joint over on 3rd," one of the guards chimes in.
"Yeah that's the place!" you give an excited hop. "Do you know how to get there?" you ask the guard, buying time until the others return.
"Surrender, Evil Doers!" A man's voice from above draws everyone's attention. The source of the voice lands next to you. He's a buff man wearing a bright purple and yellow pinstriped suit. "Stand aside, citizen, while I dispatch these hooligans," he says to you, brushing you aside with an arm bar. Totally not expecting any of this, you trip and find yourself falling off the pier, hitting the river with a splash. When you surface, gasping for air, you hear gunfire and the squealing of tires. Who the hell is this guy?
You find a ladder and pull yourself out of the freezing river. By the time you climb back onto the platform, the action is over. Ace and the limo are nowhere in sight, but the guards and their boss are all knocked out and the suited hero is tying them up. "My apologies, citizen," he says to you as he sees your dripping form standing on the dock. "You were in danger and I could not allow any harm to come to you."
"By tossing me into the river!?"
"Ah yes... Sometimes I forget my own strength. But see? You are safe! Allow me to make it up to you by escorting you to the Kitty Kat Lounge." He extends his arm, waiting for you to take it as his eyes are firmly glued to your chest, which is basically on full display through your wet shirt.
"I'm not a stripper!"
"I'm not judging. Just looking to help you on your way," he says, not backing down from his bravado.
"I don't need your help!" You angrily burst into flames, a wave of steam rushing off your body as the fire burns off the river water. "I am Flame. And I had everything under control until you barged in!"
"Well pleased to meet you, Flame. I am Confidence Man!" He strikes a power pose, hands on hips. Well that explains a lot. "Next time we will be able to work together and I'm sure my nemesis will not escape again!"
"Next time? Nemesis? What??"
"My nemesis, Ace."
"The tennis girl?"
"Don't let her looks fool you. She is every bit cunning and devious as she is beautiful. Somehow she has outwitted me yet again, but next time we will defeat her."
"Again with the next time. And the 'we.' There is no we. We're not a team."
"Oh but I sense that you are someone who does not like to leave a job unfinished. Am I right?"
"Well-"
"Of course I am," he doesn't wait for you to respond. "So next time I have a lead on her, I will let you know. Consider it my gift to you for flubbing up your operation here tonight."
"Great... But how will you get in touch with me?"
"Don't worry. I have my ways." He gives you a wink. "Until next time, Flame." He jumps into the sky and flies away. What a weird dude. You follow suit and fly away yourself. Ugh it's going to take a week to wash this river stench off.
"You went out last night," Violet greets you, arms crossed, as you enter her gym for a second day of training.
"Uhhh maybeee..."
She sniffs the air. "Go for a swim, did we?"
"Shut up!"
"Well did you at least get the bad guys this time?"
"No... This idiot in a purple and yellow suit showed up and-"
"Confidence Man? What a douche!" Violet starts laughing. "Is he still chasing after that tennis chick? What was her name...?"
"Ace. And yes."
"Oh you've really stepped in it. Hah well I think he's punishment enough."
"What do you mean?" you ask apprehensively. He's annoying, but he wasn't that bad.
"You'll see. Maybe next time when I tell you not to go out there you won't."
Do you press her for more info, or let it go?

Perils of a Novice Superheroine
A generic superheroing setting drenched with sex and scandal
Acropolis City, the center of super-human and caped crusader activity in this particular world - with its own dizzying highs and lows, high-tech skylines and slums standing in stark, four-color contrast, it provided everything that a costumed megalomaniac or masked vigilante could ask for. In fact, as is usually the case where colorful masked characters are the norm, it has become something of an institution by this point. But although the mere existence of costumed heroes and villains no longer shocks people, these people - who, by their very nature, thrive on attention - keep finding new ways to stand out from the crowd and attract the eye. This last goal tends to get a lot of emphasis in the most simple, sexualized way possible. For reasons that the world's most brilliant scientists have yet to explain, latent super-abilities seem to manifest more often in women than men by a ratio of 3 to 1 or more. This is true even when the superpower isn't "natural"; paranormal artifacts fall into their hands, esoteric martial arts schools never seem to have a male heir, the technological prototypes they test always seem to be the ones that are most easily used or abused for good and evil. Unfortunately, the glory days of the past where citizens were happy to see any old masked do-gooder show up are over - in recent years, Acropolis City has established a ranking system of heroes where those who get high marks from the citizens and resolve incidents are rewarded with corporate sponsorships and (most coveted of all) seats at the prestigious League of Propriety. Those who intimidate the populace, cause excessive collateral damage, or simply don't excite anyone, garnering low rankings, get 'asked' to move to less prestigious cities. Few superheroes want to get stuck battling clans of villainous hillbillies and corrupt small-town sheriffs for the rest of their careers, so they're always eager to please the influential citizens of Acropolis City (judges, eminent scientists, first responders, and of course the all-important reporters). On the other side of the law, a similar dynamic predominates; only the most glamorous and charismatic costumed ne'er-do-wells can make it in this town. And so, the novice superheroines just learning the ways of battling for justice and order, without any team to back them up, always end up patrolling the skeeviest, most undesirable slums of the city and taking on the most thankless rescues. As if that weren't bad enough, most of them feel obliged to dress in ways that get more outlandish and revealing with every passing year while they fight the good fight and/or feed their craving for attention, depending on how you see the 'cape life'. As if that weren't troublesome enough, the superhuman mutations that make so many of these heroes' careers possible also result in greatly increased sexual sensitivity, particularly in females. The adventures and misadventures that these spandex-clad lady crusaders get into are often too hot to print for the kind of comics that their young admirers would read. Messy mistakes will be made, but you don't want to disappoint your readers, do you? So let the League know what kind of superheroine you are, your chosen name, powers, and appearance, and they'll send you out on your first patrols. Good luck.
