Chapter 16 by ir0nfang ir0nfang

What should I put my focus on now?

The business

Since training is not available to me, or rather it's UNSAFE currently, the best option would be to expand and grow the business further. So with that in mind I started by heading to the office. From there I began to build up what I could, getting things set up for the lab. After that I headed out and bought out a few different local business's, mainly places struggling. I offered to keep them on if they'd like and went so far as to get hold of a rather large factory building, the first industry being entered into by Nexus Holdings? Clothes. With the info I had and the business model's the brilliant minds had taught me as I slept, I was able to make incredibly high quality clothes at a fraction of the cost. It would take some time and practice to get the worker's all up to speed on using the machines not too mention getting the rest of the open positions filled but designer brand level clothes that could pumped out this fast and cost so little compared to the competition? Once our product was ready to be sent out we'd make money hand over fist, bag's upon bag's of cash. While the factory was getting set up though I had other things I needed to get started on...

The first of which involved a message to President Carter which led to a discussion between us and finally into a deal being worked out, one that gave me cart blanche to hire or recruit ANYONE I wished, even criminals for my business's or for any future team that might be needed. Didn't take me nearly as much convincing as I thought, once he was able to hear the immediate and longer lasting effects of the vision I told him about, how few survived the crisis not too mention how MANY dangers and threats would come for the planet. He explained that he'd do his best to ensure such information remained outside the reach of the public at large, I only later learned that he'd had his memories blocked or removed of what we'd spoken about. How he did it I don't know and I wouldn't be informed, but he hadn't wanted to take any chances clearly. So I needed to be extra careful with who I brought onto that team. But for now, it was time to see if there were any people I could perhaps find and hire that would like to return to a normal life. I refused to even LOOK in Gotham's direction for the time being, better for me to look elsewhere so I wasn't tempted to send my summons after Joker and his thugs... Before I could put much more thought into it, Shiva was called away, needed for some missions from the League of Assassins.

Jade and I were left to our work, my focus should remain on the business for now anyways. I can start recruiting later, in the meantime though I CAN start building up a hidden place for such a team. Finding a location didn't take long, nearly every city had some sort of homeless problem or some area that had people **** to move some place better. Though it got me strange looks from Jade as to where I kept pulling this money out from, I was able to get the places bought out that caught my eye. From there I helped to hire moving companies to assist the people in moving to better places, even gave them substantial bonus payment for any inconvenience. Turns out paying for their new home, letting it be put in their name, AND paying them an extra 500 grand works wonders for getting the property I needed. In only 1 day's time deals were made, within the next 2 weeks people would be moved out of the places that still had residents and things could continue on. For those that came back saying that was too short a time frame I offered to DOUBLE the cash bonus they'd already been given, sure some of them were nervous about selling to me but everything was legal and above board. I think helping to pay for their new home with a cash deal may have helped though, after all it would be in their name.

Regardless with all the deal making done for today and really not feeling like going back to cook, I asked Jade to pick any place she'd like for dinner. Heading into a restaurant more for families we ended up sitting down and looking over some menu's, only to be interrupted. "Here I was expecting you to go somewhere high class. Instead you go to a place parents bring their kids as a treat." Looking up we were both surprised to see Lex Luthor standing there, I set down my menu and turned towards him. "Hello Lex. I'd ask if you wanted to join us but I doubt this is the kind of place you'd use for a business dinner, and I don't see this as being much of a social visit." I saw him smirk at that, he slipped into his usual smile reserved for deal making pretty quick though. "I thought I'd come make my offer to buy you out in person, until Roulette told me just WHO you have backing you of course. I wonder what you promised them that could gain you their protection?" Ah, fishing for information hmm? Okay then. "Well Mr. Luthor. It's simple really, let's just say I had some insider information that was rather important to them. So we made a deal. Your wanting information right? Let's just say that things are going to get very interesting in the near future. I suggest keeping up on world events Mr. Luthor. Oh and don't worry, it shouldn't impact your business in any negative way, to my knowledge at least." I explained as best I could without going into detail.

"You don't really think being this vague with ME is a good idea do you? I could hack into your company files and have more than enough money to make any lawsuit or legal action you could take against me worthless. How much damage could I do to your company if I got into your servers?" I turned to look him in the eyes completely at that point. "Lex that would be a waste of your time. I don't have ANYTHING on the company servers you could get or use. Besides I thought you were certain I was going to need buying out, why threaten me now?" He smirked again, like he had the upper hand. "Your hiding something. I'll find out what you gave THEM in due time. Nothing can remain hidden from me." I shook my head, closing my eyes and turning back to my menu. "Lex I'm sorry to tell you that your going to have a LOT more to focus on than little old me, sooner than you think too. There's something coming, and you should keep your eyes open for it..." with that the waitress came over and asked for mine and Jade's orders, Lex leaving with an even look on his face. Something told me my business might be under attack soon, but that was something to worry about later. Now?

It's dinner time.
