Chapter 3 by FreeUseLover FreeUseLover

The appointment

Rose just came back from her coffee break. Getting coffee always came at a price though. She had to endure Sharon's tales about her three cats. Sharon, who apparently always got coffee when she did, had three cats and nothing else to talk about. Rose normally liked cats, but if Sharon told about hers she wanted those cats to die. Or run away at least. Or even better, eat Sharon in her sleep or something like that.

Rose tried to shake off the bitter thoughts, took a deep breath and went back into her little cubicle. Hopefully the next person in line would be easier to bear than Sharon. Unlikely though. Especially after a break, people were doubly annoyed with waiting times. Rose checked her schedule. The next appointment was booked for half an hour. Had to be something complicated. Great...

She put on the closest thing she could manage to a professional smile and went back into action. Rose sat down at her desk and passed the button that would call in waiting number 347. She did not look up when she heard the door open and close.

"What can I help you with today..." She glanced up for a spot second to check "... Sir?" He hesitated a bit and then said somewhat nervously "I... Er... Fishing license."

Rose was used to the citizens coming here to not be very well prepared. But this was new. She tried to resist it, but she could not fight off the urge to bury her face in her hands. What an idiot...

"Sir, for a fishing license you are not merely in the wrong office you are in the wrong building altogether. It's the other end of town." Rose slowly looked up, bracing herself for the outburst. Somehow this would be her fault, she heard it a thousand times before. But no.

The guy simply looked at her, very confused. "I... Well I... " He looked at his waiting number and n back up at her. "Sorry, maybe I really am in the wrong...." He did look genuinely confused, Rose though. Confused, and now that she took a closer look, rather cute. Not Hollywood Star good looking, but like a nice guy.

Her tone became a bit more friendly. "Well, it would appear so. Sorry about that Sir. A huge coincidence though, that you would have the exact same number that is called here today right?" He shrugged, looking down to the floor and got up. "Again, sorry I couldn't help." Rose said. Just when he was about to close the door, it clicked.

"Wait! C... Come back for a moment Sir?" How could she be so stupid... "Did you... Did you say fishing license?" He turned around and nodded slowly "Yes, I did." Roses heart pounded. "Did... Did you book this appointment, well... Online?"

He closed the door once again and came back "Yes, I did." The hint of a smile appeared on his face. Rose grinned. She could not remember the last time she genuinely smiled at work "In that case, please do not go to the other side of town, Sir "

Rose got out the key she was told never to use and unlocked the hinges of the plexiglass wall in front of her to swing it aside. There was a lot more room now. The two of them looked at each other for what felt like a minute. It was not an unpleasant minute though. And then, suddenly out of nowhere, he reached forward, grabbed her face in both hands and pulled her in for a quick but passionate kiss.
