The Uber with Sammie and Paul

There were almost ten under-thirties on their office team, and each and every one of them was coming along to Mystique for happy hour. They split themselves up in three Ubers, three to a car, meaning Daisy, Sammie, and Paul were in the last car to leave together. Paul held the door open like a perfect gentleman, and Sammie and Daisy pushed their way in. Daisy would take the middle seat. Paul filled in behind her. It was tight, but Daisy didn't mind. The better to get to know her colleagues that way.

"So is it true you're working on Pelly?" Sammie asked, leaning forward to get a look at Paul.

Paul was in the accounting department, and Pelly (a politician who had just been accused of fraud) was their biggest file at the moment. Daisy had something to do with it, but she couldn't remember what. It must have gotten lost in a stack of papers thrown off Mr. Johnson's desk before he threw her onto it.

"You betcha. They needed their best man on it," Paul gloated.

"Best man maybe," Sammie said. "But every job a man can do, I can do better."

Daisy burst out in giggles. "You got it, Sammie," she said. She didn't have any real friends at the firm, but Sammie always made her laugh, and that was pretty good. Not for the first time, she ended up wondering why it was that Sammie wore that pinky ring. Maybe it had something to do with those... jobs that she could do better than Paul.

"Keep telling yourself that. When you need to work long and hard into the night, they know who to call, and it ain't you." Paul had a winning smile, but that wasn't what Daisy was focused on right that minute.
