The Trans-Dimensional Oscillation Room

The rest of the school day was uneventful, just Chemistry, Calculus, and Study Hall: Then back to homeroom and outside.

I had called my folks and told them I had an unexpected Job interview, so I couldn't be certain when I would come home.

Outside I got into Lucy's second limo and we headed out to Utopia Tower.

When Lucy's fleet of drones equipped with her dimension viewers made her an overnight Billionaire she bought the old flooded quarry from the county and turned it into the basement and foundation of Utopia Tower, a Twenty Five story tall office building/ Research Laboratory which was the heart of Utopia Unlimited's whole operation. (And coincidentally the county's largest single employment provider...)

Inside we went separate directions, Lucy to God only knows where while I was escorted into an inner loby and thence to a very small, (but plush,) conference room.

When Lucy Underwood reappeared she had changed out of our schools colors of Black And White and was instead wearing an attractive blue wool woman's three piece suit with a Green silk blouse. As she sat down opposite me she pulled out a banded bundle of twenties marked $2000$ and a boilerplate NDA. I took the money and signed whereupon she called up a small dossier on the room's big screen.

"I'm sure you're wondering what kind of device I want you to test, so let's get started, shall we?" Lucy asked.

"Lets," I replied.

"What most people know about dimension viewers is that they let you look into alternate universes. However what most people DON'T know is that the government and Utopia Unlimited censor what you see on the screen, A LOT. Just for starters do you have any idea how much pornographic content gets caught on our cameras when we're filming a dimension which predates the industrial revolution?" Lucy began.

"I imagine plenty," I responded.

"You don't know the HALF of it," She explained. "People in earlier eras live in such close proximity to both animals and each other that they have absolutely no inhibition about having sex with other people sleeping not ten feet away, and the few who do sneak off into the woods or the middle of a feild of wheat to get some 'privacy'. That's just the beginning though, our drones often fly at window height in major cities. Now those drones are automated but their filming in another dimension right?"

"I suppose," I said, not sure quite where she was going with this.

"In a lot of those other Universes, we call these 'Echoes', those same Buildings are in the exact same places, so our drones often accidentally catch people bumping uglies when they think no one can see them because their on the twelfth floor of what in their world is the tallest building in the city. However I digress," Lucy said.

"The real problem is that there are entire universes we have to blacklist, because in some universes magic is real: including this one."

"Huh?" I asked confused.

"Our own Earth has a very weak magical field for some reason, but when the government looked in on other earths we found that in some of them there are real wizards and sorcerers and of course some clever boots decided to try some of the spells: and they worked! Now they are not as powerful, what produces a fireball that'll knock over a tree there, here only makes a jet of flame like lighting an aerosol can, but we can't let just anyone be able too set things on fire with nothing but a few arcane words and gestures! This is one of MANY reasons that Utopia Unlimited is actually allowed to have a monopoly on the Dimension Viewer, we have to keep this stuff under wraps until we figure out what to DO about it when it gets out. Anyway, I'm getting off topic again."

"Another thing people don't know is that I didn't invent the Dimension Viewer when I was seventeen, I invented it when I was SEVEN. I don't like to brag but I am possibly the smartest person who has ever lived: the Dimension Viewer is actually one of the few inventions I've come up with that they have allowed into mass production, I've developed hundreds. However, what the government has had me working on since I founded Utopia Unlimited is a way to move MATTER between dimensions, and early this year I cracked it!"

"The Trans-Dimensional Oscillation Room allows you to send objects, and even living beings, into parallel universes. We've tested it on robots, plants, and animals, and it works perfectly. They arrive without a hitch, completely undamaged: OK, a few contusions from the fall out of the transition space to the ground during the initial arrival, but that's it. However, there's a catch," Lucy said.

"What's the catch?" I asked, intrigued.

"Glad you asked. To move matter between dimensions takes a machine the size of a house inside which is a room approximately ten feet on a side suspended at the center of which is a glass box of roughly two meters cubed made with a very special mixture of rare earth elements. Without another machine like the one that sent them there on the other side, there's no way to bring them BACK," Lucy explained.

"And you think I'll be willing to become the first human being to be transferred?" I asked, incredulous.

"Well, I'm HOPING, because two months ago we found a world that almost seems to be made for the purpose..." She replied, pulling up a new set of images on the screen.
