What happened Jamie?
The Time that I became your average Party animal
"Ow!"
"Sorry!" I winced through my dopey grin as I danced with Amy wildly to the beat of some club song long out of date.
It seemed that even in my wildest dreams, I was categorically not a fantastic dancer. Still, seeing her wide smile shining the beams of the light globes that had been installed in the ceiling of the frat house, feeling the pulse of the beat against my skin... I felt, at that moment, that I owed Chris an apology when I woke up. "If real life was anything like this," I thought, "then maybe I should take more risks."
"It's fine, keep going! This song is my jam!" Amy laughed brightly as we moved around each other, still keeping that respectful distance between us that kept the scandalous rumors at bay.
I laughed back and twirled, going for broke because hey, it was my dream, right?
Of course, my dreams had conflict in them, even the happy ones.
So it made sense to me that there were laughs and jeers headed our way. In the high of the moment I couldn't hear the mocking undertones for what they probably were, but I wouldn't have cared either.
My grin still sloppy, intoxicated without a drop of ****; I looked to Amy and laughed. "Sounds like they're jealous of our mad skills!" I raised my voice for the sake of the crowd, closing the distance slightly with her.
Still, seeing two people break that barrier caused the whole party to kick in. Soon, other people trickled into the dance floor, finding partners and dancing the night away with happy grins and shaking hips. Pretty much everyone did better than us two, but I was glad to see that people were paying less attention to us at the same rate that I started ignoring them. Soon, faces and bodies were blurs to me as I focused on having fun with my best friend in the whole world. Dream or no, Amy knew how to have a good time, and I was just happy to be with her.
"Damn Jamie, where did all this come from?" She asked, neither retreating nor getting any closer.
"Well... Let's just say that I kinda feel in my element, yeah?" Inching ever closer, seeing the blush rising in her cheeks.
"Oh, one of these dreams, huh?" I smiled as her flustering face looked so cute, "Well, why not? Nothing wrong with kissing her in your dreams..."
I couldn't tell you how long we were dancing before I jumped up at the sensation of an ice-cold drink splashing against me mid-move. I whipped around and a genuinely apologetic and somehow familiar face.
"Oh shit! Sorry uh... Aren't you that guy? You remember me, right?" Her words tumbled out of her mouth as she pulled out a cloth from her bag, an empty red cup in her hand. I thought her over for a moment, her curly hair, little make-up, white top with a long red skirt, pumps, and... ah!
I blinked at recognition, "Oh yeah! You're that girl from the other day, right? The one I sorta half met when I..." I trailed off, my eyes not quite meeting her gaze. Is it shitty that I just recognized her because of her glasses? They weren't bottle glasses or anything, but bright red frames weren't easy to pull off and... well, she just didn't? It's not like she couldn't, but she just didn't give off a bold enough vibe at the time. Plus, I also was a bit busy rushing out of the girls' bathroom in embarrassment, so maybe I wasn't paying as close attention as I should've.
"Yeah, we met in the bathroom a bit ago. Sorry about this. I don't know why I thought I could cut through the dance floor with it, but I just didn't feel like going around, and now you two are all wet." She says handing me a washcloth, totally rocking the frames now that she's in 'party mode.'
At 'you two,' I turn to see Amy's top soaked in the other girl's drink. She must've gotten the brunt of it, and now her top clung closely to her breasts and bra, her cheeks shining in embarrassment even as she rubbed the back of her head with a giggle.
"Yeah, it kinda sucks, but it was an accident, right Jamie?"
I smiled brightly at her, even more confident that this was just a dream. I mean, what were the chances that I'd meet the girl from the bathroom incident, dressed to the nines, where she'd spill a drink on me and my long time crush and Amy would not only be soaked in that most pleasant way but still be her usual wonderful self to said girl?
I just laugh at that, deciding to roll with it. I take the towel and hand it to Amy.
"Yeah, it isn't. But, if you feel bad enough that you wanna make it up to us, I'd accept a dance with us as an apology."
Amy and bathroom girl both looked a little shocked, which only grew as I took my wet shirt and threw it toward the front door. Thankfully, it didn't hit anyone.
"What? That thing was wet, and it's not like I needed it with how warm it is in here, yeah?"
Amy looked completely dumbfounded at me, but the new girl kinda quirked a smile at my sheer boldness and politely laughed before she spoke up.
"I mean, hard to argue with your logic there, pal. I'm gonna pass on the dance, though; it's not really my bag of tea."
"Sure!" I moved, giving her the room to get between Amy and me, "See you later then..?"
The girl smiled as I backed off. "Lilliana. Nice to meet you again...?"
My best friend finally regained her composure, "My names' Amy."
"And I'm Jamie, lord of awkward dancing. See you, Lilliana." I gave her a hammy wink and a smile.
Once Lilliana stepped between us, Amy slid back into place with a bright grin.
"Dude! What the hell was all that?! You were actually something approaching smooth there. Who are you, and what the hell have you done with my gun-shy bestie who'd shut down at just the presence of a cute girl?"
"Ahhh, so you admit she's cute, eh? What would Jim say about such wandering eyes?" I needle her a little.
She rolls her eyes, "Look, I'm not blind, okay? I can tell when someone is someone else's type without being bi. Besides, not being able to just look is a sign that something's gone horribly wrong in your relationship. Now spill your guts, pod-person." She finished with a poke to my soft stomach. I can't help but chuckle as she squares her shoulders at me and glares.
We transition with the music to a more calm and smooth dance, still not an ounce of skill between us.
"Well... I mean, I guess I'm getting into this more than I thought." I am honest with dream-Amy, but I didn't tell her the 'real' truth. I didn't want the dream to end, so I kept going with its logic. "I mean, during High School... I wasn't ever popular but..."
She winced, "Yeah. Fuck those people."
I nod at her, "Yeah, fuck 'em. But... Here, now? I feel better than I ever did. I feel... I dunno. Less like a freak?"
She pushes on my shoulder, "You're not a freak. You're just a little different."
"Yeah yeah, whatever." I shake my head, "but you know what I mean. It feels good not being so guarded all the time, ya know?"
Just before she could say anything, I was tapped on the shoulder by the hosts of the party. I didn't remember their names, but I knew Frat leaders when I saw them. At the front of the pack was a strong guy with short hair, his eyes alight with something as he kept his hand on my bare shoulder. He had a t-shirt for the local team on it and a pair of garishly green cargo pants, and he smiled broadly.
"So you're the guy who's been bringing some life to the party, eh? Not the usual type for these kinda outbursts. That takes even more guts than usual."
I look at him in askance, "Uhh... thank you?"
"Where is my dream taking me now?" I wondered in the back of my mind as I turned to face him.
"Listen," He leaned in conspiratorially, his breath sweet and salty from the junk food at this party. I once again marvel at how real this dream felt in the moment but figured it would fade when I woke up. "I know the frats and sororities around here have kept a kinda squeaky clean reputation around here, but we're all young and adventurous around here. What keeps people coming is that hint of rebellion from wild stories around here. Now, while we wanna keep a clean face to the dean so she doesn't crack down on our chill little parties, we still kinda need some rumors to spread of wild behavior to keep people coming."
I nod, starting to get where this is going. Ames starts pulling on my shoulder.
"Well, Jamie has been the life of the party so far, but me and him were getting a little tire-"
I shrug, "Depends on what you want me to do. I am feeling pretty bold today."
I can feel her stare, "Jamie, are you feeling okay-"
He saddles up to me, "I'll be fully honest," his voice goes even softer, preventing anyone else on the dance floor from hearing, "I'd be asking you to walk around campus in your undies."
I can almost image Ames eyes bludging as an outraged "Wha-" escapes her.
"Ya know, not streaking because that'd raise too many hackles and get us looked at... but a student walking around, barely decent and a song in their heart? Yeah, that'd turn just enough heads to keep us popular. You in?" He asked, backing up and stretching out his hand.
My best friend pulls me around, fearful. "Jamie, I'm not sure what's going on with you. It was cute before, but I am serious now. Don't do it! You could get arrested for public indecency!"
If this was anything less than a dream in my mind, I wouldn't have gotten this far. Beyond that, I would've listened to Ames; she's always looked out for me. But, at the time, I thought this was in a dream, so instead...
I put a hand on her shoulder, smiled in what I believed was a roguish way, and took off my pants, leaving me in my boxer briefs.
"It'll be fine, Ames. It's just some harmless fun."
She flared up in pure frustration, threw up her hands in a way that pushed off my and, and stormed off.
"I am not sure what's going through your head, but come back to me when you're not insane anymore!" She yelled, practically disappearing into the frat house.
I shrugged as a hand patted my shoulder. I was invested now, and I wanted to see where this was all headed. Maybe if I follow the sexual flow, it'll lead me somewhere good. Still, even in the moment I thought it was odd that the supposed dream-Amy was so upset, but I waved it off.
"Damn, dude, you pissed off your girl just to help us out. I'm not sure if I should be honored or disappointed in your dumb ass."
I shrug at the frat leader.
"I mean, she's not my girlfriend, just my best friend. Besides, we've been through worse, she'll get over it. "
He smiled brightly at that. He's not a bad looker, I idly noted.
"I guess so, Jamie. Anywho, you better get running while the party is hot so peeps can put two and two together."
I smile at him and laugh. "Sure, bud. On it."
With that, I casually strolled out of the party in naught but my underwear. I enjoyed the sights of the campus, mostly abandoned at this time of night with just a few fellow students who looked at me with shocked expressions as I headed home. In hindsight, it was truly fortunate that no cops showed up to arrest me, not that that would matter in the long run.
I walked pass Chris sleeping on the couch, a beer bottle in his hand with the other down his pants. I look at his laptop and see it was one of those pickup artist videos about finding hot babes to fuck. No lotion though, so he wasn't fapping, I figured. Chris did do it sometimes for comfort, though not around me usually. I guess he was getting psyched up to find cute girls at the party tonight and wanted to take the edge off with a beer but konked out instead. He always was a sleepy drunk. Still, there's only like... three bottles around him. Was he always this much of a lightweight?
Still, I had my own nap to take. I wasn't sure how it was possible to be sleepy in a dream, but I didn't care at that point. I tucked into bed, still in my underwear, and fell asleep.
I had no idea what I had just done, but I had started to change the world in a big way.
What is the fallout?
