Mako. The kooks in Cosmo Canyon believed it was the Planet's lifeblood. Shinra believed it was a resource, the path to ultimate prosperity. Cloud didn't care. It was a hustle, a path to some cash, and hopefully Tifa's pussy as a prize.

There were four people in their squad. Biggs, full of dark hair, idealistic and ready to make a difference. Wedge, a slovenly tub of lard who was nonetheless irrepressibly optimistic. Jessie Raspberry, a wannabe, who wore a cheap plate of armor, and had been making eyes at Cloud from the initial briefing at Seventh Heaven. She had reddish-brown hair, smallish breasts, a tight ass, and she was perky. If Cloud wasn't so cynical, he could appreciate Jessie.

And there was Barrett Wallace, his employer. Chiseled, 6'9 and Black, Barrett intimidated many people, Cloud excluded. He'd had some terrible accident and in place of a lower arm was a crude machine gun.

He'd formed an instant dislike to Cloud, and the feeling was mutual. He was Tifa's boyfriend, after all. And he needed an operator like Cloud.

He sneered at Cloud as two security guards showed up.

"You're up," he said simply, racing after the others. Cloud sighed, pulling the Buster sword off his back.
