Chapter 4 by Nemo of Utopia Nemo of Utopia

Onward To Character Selection!

The Stable Of Pregens: Elder Houses

Here You can select from several characters you can play built for elder houses, those dynasties which are old in the annals of the Imperium. Each one has certain strengths and weaknesses, chose wisely.

Dame-Captain Gloria Aquileia Rabeka Cambodia: second of that name:

"Becky", as she prefers to be called by her intimate associates, appears to be a 20 something woman of what you and I would recognize as Asian derivation. Commanding the Ambition-Class Cruiser "The Pride of Cambodia", Dame-Captain Rabeka is not in point of fact an actual Rogue Trader. Rather, she is the daughter of the current Rogue Trader of House Cambodia, who is over 400 years old and so senile that her agents and assigns have convinced her to sign a "Writ of Agency" allowing "Becky" to act in her stead.

"Becky" is not your typical Rogue Trader, rather than favoring charismatic leadership she is best at intelligence-based activities. She knows a great deal about several subjects and is always trying to learn more.

Becky fights with the best quality las-pistol and a common power sword. She wears Enforcer Light Carapace for defense.

Lord-Captain Charles Philip Seymour Turner:

Appearing to be in his mid-30s "Captain Charley" is much more typical as a Rogue Trader, focused on fellowship and leadership skills. He commands the Conquest-class Star Galleon "Emperor's Grace", which is armed with a mix of long-range Lance Batteries and Macro Cannon Broadsides.

"Captain Charley" is a powerfully built man with an aggressive streak. He values the strength of body and will in his servants and associates, but above all loyalty. He will periodically test his associate's loyalty and warns them of such when they are hired.

Admiral Mark Ural Peyoter Yarrick:

The "Admiral" is the latest scion of the Yarrick dynasty of the 50 Families.

Commanding the Secutor-Class Monitor-Cruiser "Blade of Het", the "Admiral" oversees a whole fleet of armed merchant shipping.

Admiral Mark is a fairly typical Rogue Trader, focused on Command and other fellowship based skills. However, he is more combat focused than the average Rogue Trader character, with talents like "Ambidextrous" and "Gunslinger". At the start of the story, he uses a common power sword and plasma pistol while being armored in "artificer armor".

It should also be noted that Admiral Mark is 4'11" tall.

Dame-Captain Sandra McQueen of House Astrid:

Specializing in the "beast trade" of exotica and rarities of the animal kingdom, (plus the occasional deadly plant or fungus,) Dame-Captain Sandra is not your typical Rogue Trader, but also not as focused as some others. She knows a little bit of everything, but only those things that relate to her area of specialty.

Sandra is the heir of a dynasty whose roots are shrouded in mystery. Some say her dynasties charter was awarded by one of the traitor primarchs and then re-affirmed by The Emperor during his first day or two after the battle with Horus. The weather this is, or isn't, true, the House of Astrid has been on the right side of history during the many great upheavals of the Imperial Eras.

Sandra McQueen is captain of the Swiftwind-Class Merchant-Brig "Knave of Hearts" a vessel of an ill reputation for it has twice now been lost in the warp and once lain crashed on a planet for over 2000 years. That is the bad news: the good news is that its sojourn on "Gregor's Salvation" appears to have cured it of its tendency to warp affinity. It now is a steady workhorse, as it was always meant to be, going from planet to planet and system to system without complaint.

Sandra fights with bolt pistol and an heirloom family saber while wearing Enforcer Light Carapace.

Lady-Admiral Jessica Leporidae:

Commanding a fleet of Raiders, Escorts, Light-Cruisers, a single Grand-Cruiser, the Lady-Admiral is a woman to be feared. Though young for the role of Rogue Trader, Jessica has performed admirably, rebuilding her family fortune from a single ship and a handful of supply contracts to a fleet of not less than 50 vessels, and every one of them a warship. Her reputation is writ large across the expanse, and many are there, even among such seasoned dynasties as Winterscale and Chordata would have to consider carefully if crossing her was worth the price.

Lady-Admiral Jessica Leporidae is the newest holder of the Rogue Trader Charter for the Leporidae dynasty of the Fifty Families, a Charter issued and signed by the God-Emperor's own hand. This charter passes only through direct matrilineal inheritance, and so must periodically have a new bloodline elevated to the status of Rogue Trader, or even have one re-discovered by an exhaustive and costly search of the Imperium for potential heirs if no existing bloodlines are known. In four known instances where no such bloodlines could be located within 100 years of the end of the old bloodline, the bloodline even had to be 'rebooted' by the use of frozen ovum from its founder, (or her most favored descendants,) stored in a closely guarded stasis vault on Mars and a servitor surrogate to carry the pregnancy. In the most recent instance of that being necessary, just over a thousand years ago, the sperm for insemination was provided by the then-current Rogue Trader of the Yarrick dynasty of the Fifty Families, meaning that the current Leporidae heir is also of the Yarrick's blood. However, the Yarrick Charter passes along the male line only, just as the Leporidae Charter is only via the female line, so neither Charter can be claimed by the opposite house. To this day the two families remain cordial, counting each other as preferred trading partners whenever feasible.

The Leporidae are considered quite ill-starred in recent centuries. They have had to have a new bloodline found twice in as many centuries before Lady-Admiral Jessica's tenure as Rogue Trader. Once the new dynasty was destroyed by ****, and the second they simply vanished without a trace. Since Jessica took over as the commander of the dynasty their fortunes have reversed completely, however, and some are whispering that the end of the previous two bloodlines was the God-Emperor's will, so that Jessica's way would be clear to inherit and restore the families fortunes. The Lady-Admiral commands the full 50 vessels allowed to a dynasty of the Fifty Families, and they are ALL warships, from the lowest Raider to the mighty Exorcist-Class Grand-Cruiser "Admiral Sigourney" from which she directs the entire operation of the Leporidae Dynasty. Most of these ships operate as part of one of four ten vessel fleets, while the last nine other than the "Admiral Sigourney" are purpose-built scout vessels that chart new warp routes and make contact with new planets...

(Jessica is an advanced start option, you gain a better starting character and vastly boosted resources at the price of a much harder game...)
