The S.S. MMO System: Common System Terminology

This page covers common terminology used in this version of the game, from HUNGER And THIRST to 'Noble' status. It will be a continual work in progress and probably eventually be modified with sub pages dealing with specific topics.

HUNGER, THIRST, and FATIGUE: These three closely related yet separate status tracks show how 'Thirsty', 'Hungry', and 'Tired' a character is, and many races have things which modify how quickly or slowly a character's HUNGER, THIRST, and FATIGUE increase, and what must be consumed or done to lower them, or what the thresholds are for the 'Nauseated' and '****' conditions arising from them, as well as results of them passing those thresholds are, or if those thresholds even really exist for that race.

It is important to note that for the vast majority of races the defaults are 80% hunger, thirst, or fatigue you become 'nauseated', 90% hunger, thirst, or fatigue you pass '****' (which in the case of fatigue shortly is replaced by 'sleep' so that it is very difficult for most races to get to 100% fatigue), and for all but a very very few at 100% you die: (Or with some races, like humans with FATIGUE and Ghouls with HUNGER, you go insane, devolving to much simpler and more animalistic non-linear algorithms for controlling your character, either temporarily (As with Ghouls) or permanently (As with Humans), which also makes you no longer a playable character in the case of PCs.)

Another important note is that for almost every race except variants of 'Dwarves' **** actually increases your THIRST, which is how people drink till they 'Black Out' in the game. This is why 'HARDCORE' servers were once, and sometimes still are, known derisively as 'teetotaler' servers, because once you 'black out' from **** it is not easy to get your THIRST back down enough to wake you up and let you recover from your drinking binge, which in turn meant that you would, since the NPCs were programmed to just throw you in the street, never wake back up and die from thirst in a few hours, which on HARDCORE servers erases your character. The game has since been reprogrammed with a mechanic that has a hidden sub track for the amount of your THIRST that is from **** consumption and when you get to 99% Thirst your body concentrates the **** in your bladder and you piss yourself, removing the ****% from your THIRST track and typically returning yourself to consciousness. However, not always, if the **** you consumed which drove your THIRST over the black out limit amounts to 9% of your total or less you will stay passed out: and veteran players on hardcore servers typically do not drink unless the character is a dwarf.

Noble: You are a member of the nobility, endowed with lands, ranks, and titles befitting your level and heritage. Certain areas and quests are open to you and your party which are not open to characters without this quality, and you receive a bonus to reaction rolls from 'noble' NPCs equal to your level. Be warned however, some NPCs notably 'rebels' have the opposite reaction to you, and may have special abilities that only work against 'Nobles'. Your Present title is: "------"* And you hold in fief the area(s) of, "------"*.
*(Fill in these sections when putting this into an actual character bio and erase these notes.

The game has more different types of 'title' and areas than you can shake a stick at, many of which are based on 'ethnic' backgrounds from Earth and just as many of which are made up for the purpose. Feel free to use any type of rank or title you can think of which is not copyrighted.

The next thing to remember is that the 'title' portion only matches their Highest title, no matter how many 'nations' they have titles from or how many areas in one nation they hold in fief. The ranking of titles is also both Game and Anglo centrist, Titles created for cultures from the game out rank similar ones from IRL and those from England/English outrank similar titles from the rest of Europe which in turn out rank those of other cultures, assuming an approximate parity of responsibility and fealty.

Inheritance: When two 'Nobles' have children they inherit, in order of birthright for their culture, the next highest title held by their parents, or the equivalent of 'Sir/Dame/Knight' for the culture in question which by special exception is given the "Landless" rather than "Honorary" notation if their parents have no lesser titles left to give or that are available to the child under the terms of inheritance for their culture. However if a 'Noble' has children with a person who is NOT Noble the child inherits nothing. Note however that in most nations of the world merely marrying a noble confers the status of 'Noble' upon the person who wedded them, with a rank equal to the 'Noble' member of the pair but of opposite gender.

However also note that the game does not really allow for divorce, if two PLAYERS divorce and want to have their married characters do likewise they have to get an ADMIN to remove the 'Married To: "__" markers from their characters or divide up and transfer ownership of half the characters to the other person along X married to X relationship lines, and it has no direct effect on their children in terms of titles, lands, or ranks. Even though it is mechanically possible, the admin categorically refuse to 'disinherit' PC nobles children, no matter what kind of divorce they have had, or if they re-marry, unless of course the player of the character in question get's themselves banned, in which case the title is NOT given back to the parents but reverts to the crown.

When a 'Noble' character's parents die a 'True ****' and they were also nobles, if they are first in the line of succession the highest title of their parents for which they are eligible is passed on to them, while all other lesser titles not awarded to their siblings revert to the crown to be handed out as needed as rewards for 'one time' quests.

It must also be noted that 'Emperors', 'Caliphs', 'Tzars', 'High-Kings', 'Arch-Dukes', and so forth who rule a nation in their own right are NEVER available to be adopted as PCs, nor can such a title be given to a PC in any way: the highest you can climb as a 'noble' is to be a 'King/Queen' or equivalent with an NPC 'Emperor' or similar above you, nor can PCs marry someone of that rank and thus have their children become 'Emperor', as this would also confer upon them the rank of 'Empress/Emperor'.

Similarly in the various lands of the game that are Democracies/Republics/Constitutional Monarchies the rank of 'President/Prime Minster' or equivalent is ALWAYS held by an NPC, as a player you cannot have a character elected to ruler-ship by 'the will of the people' either, no matter how much they respect and admire you.

Much to the annoyance of the Chinese Government there are no 'Communist' countries in the game, hard as they have tried to create one, and the company that administers/programs the game is not publicly traded, so they cannot **** them to add one. However some of the admin have stated publicly that in the event of a 'Communist' country coming into existence the 'Premier' will ALSO be an NPC.

At the present time it is unknown what would happen if the non-linear mathematical systems which make up the AI of an NPC Head of State were to become sapient as some others have lately, since none yet have, but it is believed by those who have heard of the phenomenon that they would most likely be removed from power, if the Admin don't trust players as the Governors of Nations they most certainly would not trust a rogue AI.

There is one other important point for this segment, even if a character looses their 'lands', the area they hold in fief, they do not lose the 'Noble' special quality, that field in such cases will then be filled in with "Landless" (or if they never were given lands "Honorary - __".), while they will retain their current 'title' until they can receive a new 'fief', at which point it will change to match that of their new area of control/allegiance.)

That's enough out of me for now, go take a look at other areas!
