The Rummage Affair Cast
Author’s Note: Any characters involved in a sex or a sexual situation are 18 years old or older.
Busybody, Incorporated - The original name of the mystery-solving group founded six years ago by Phineas Farris, Jake Magnum, and Dusty Pinder. Highly successful teen detectives, they solved many unusual mysteries while making enemies in their hometown, including within the police department. Approximately three years ago, after Dusty moved away, Phinn and Jake stopped using the name. Both boys felt that keeping the name without Dusty wasn't proper, and Phinn always hated it.
Phineas Farris - 18-year-old: Short dark brown hair and brown eyes (eyeglasses). The brain of the group. Phinn is antisocial and dislikes small talk and interacting with his classmates. That often makes him sarcastic or a know-it-all. A former bookworm and comic book reader, he rarely has the time or patience to indulge in his old hobbies. Phinn is usually suspicious of everyone, leading him to be rarely shocked by their cases. Opinions of Phinn are low in his neighborhood ever since the incident at Old Man Mauldin’s house early in Busybody, Inc.’s operations.
Jake Magnum - 18-year-old: Short-to-medium dirty blond hair and blue eyes. The athlete/muscle of the group. A popular student at North High, Jake plays linebacker and tight end on the football team. His looks and skills make him popular with female classmates and older women. Jake tends to view everyone as innocent and often believes in the supernatural, which frequently frustrates his best friend. Sometimes feels uncomfortable around Phinn’s more nerdy or geeky friends. Only serious, long-term girlfriend was Tara Hartel, who scares the crap out of him.
Dusty Pinder - Research and record-keeping for Busybody, Inc. The group’s sneak thief and daredevil, due to Dusty’s small stature. Moved away three years ago. Jake and Phinn still haven’t adjusted to losing their partner.
Families
Liberty “Libby” Magnum - 20-year-old: Long, wavy, dirty blond hair and blue eyes. As Jake’s older sister, Libby often babysat her brother and his two closest friends while growing up. Opinionated and liking a good time, Libby often bickers with her younger brother, especially when he flirts with her friends. Libby alternates between viewing Phinn as a little brother and an annoying pest. Also, she doesn’t like Jake sniffing around her attractive friends. She’s currently home from college on summer break.
Bandit - The Magnum family’s bulldog. Named by Dusty, Bandit is particularly fond of Phinn, who takes him on frequent walks and sneaks him treats.
Marvin and Justine Magnum - Jake’s opposites-attract parents. On-and-off-again high school sweethearts, they somehow seem to make their differences work. Justine’s a well-respected criminal defense attorney, while Marvin is a former local star athlete who owns a sports bar, Magnum’s.
Putnam Farris - 13-year-old: Messy dark brown hair and brown eyes. Nicknamed Pugsley by Phinn and Jake at a young age. Smart and a schemer, Putnam has an adversarial relationship with his older brother. Phinn swears his kid brother is already turning out to be his villainous counterpart.
Fraser and Pamela Farris - A chemistry professor at Bentworth College, Fraser is somewhat absent-minded and clueless about the level of trouble his sons get into. A stay-at-home mom and volunteer, Pamela knows her sons' mischievous ways and attempts to keep them out of trouble.
Neighbors
Cormac “Corky” King - 12-year-old: A spunky kid with short copper hair and green eyes. Parents are Clint and Bonnie. A neighbor of Jake and Phinn’s, Corky lives across the street on Madison Avenue at the corner of 36th Street. The president of the Busybody, Inc. Fan Club, which he created four years ago with Jake and Dusty’s permission. Corky likes to view himself as the unofficial fourth member of the group. An avid reader of The Wicked Riddle, the only remaining website or online magazine dedicated to junior investigating. Might still have a crush on Sherry Capshaw.
Allison “Allie” LeClaire - Incoming Senior: Long, straight, sandy blonde hair, light brown eyes, medium-sized breasts, and a toned ass. A friendly, bubbly young woman with incredible stamina, Allie has been a successful gymnast for years. Best friends with Piper Alessi, whom she met at an early age in the town’s gymnastics program. Attended Marshall Elementary School with Busybody, Incorporated. One of the few classmates whom Phinn seems to tolerate because of her personality.
Abigail “Abby” LeClaire - 21-year-old: Long, wavy, golden blonde hair, light brown eyes, large breasts, and a curvy ass. A college student currently entering her senior year. Although a year older, she’s part of Liberty Magnum’s close clique. She’s best friends with Cheyanne Cudahy. A popular, sexy young woman, she’s long been one of Jake’s top crushes.
Flynn & April LeClaire - Both 45-year-olds: Flynn has light brown hair with dark brown eyes. April has shoulder-length sandy blonde hair, light brown eyes, and large breasts. An electrician and paralegal, the parents of Abby and Allie live across from the south side of Monroe Park on the corner of Monroe Avenue and 36th Street.
Bill & May Shepley - 73-year-old & 70-year-old: Bill has buzzcut silver hair with blue eyes. May has neck-length blonde hair (dyed) with light brown eyes. A retired carpenter and a homemaker, they’re the parents of April LeClaire and grandparents of Abigail and Allison. Despite his retirement, Bill keeps busy with his woodworking hobby. He repairs broken furniture to donate to the rummage sale, or creates new items that he sells at Waterfest, the local town festival.
Sydney Capshaw - 20-year-old: Long, straight, dark chocolate brown hair, light brown eyes, and medium-sized breasts. A former high school swimmer, Sydney works every summer as a lifeguard. Close friends with Liberty Magnum, she’s one of Jake’s many crushes.
Sherry Capshaw - 13-year-old: Shoulder-length, dark chocolate brown hair, and light brown eyes. More of a girly-girl than her older sister, Sherry cares about fashion and makeup. Jake knew that Corky had a crush on her in the past, but he is unsure if he still does.
Mark & Sharon Capshaw - 46-year-old & 45-year-old: Mark has short, dark brown hair (graying temples), and light brown eyes. Sharon has her light brown hair in a pixie cut, dark brown eyes, and medium-to-large breasts. Mark owns Capshaw Collison Center, an auto body repair shop, while Sharon works as a hairstylist. The parents of Sydney and Sherry live on 35th Street, a cul-de-sac a block east of Madison Avenue. With his successful business, Mark indulges in buying and using all the typical toys that men want. One such toy, his large boat, offers an empty extra garage for use in the annual neighborhood rummage sale, which Sharon helps organize.
Lance Nook - Soon-to-be-22-year-old: Short, blond hair with blue eyes. An easygoing young man who’s friendly and handsome, Lance seems cursed with terrible luck when it comes to women. A college student, he’s headed into a fifth year after changing his major twice. Growing up across the street from Jake and Phinn, Lance often provided car rides for the bicycle-limited sleuths while he was still in high school. The trio repaid the favors by investigating his new girlfriend from Hilltop Academy early in their detective career. The boys followed that up last summer by exposing Lance’s current college girlfriend as a cheater. Liberty Magnum and her friends all find Lance good-looking, but something about his easy-going manner tends to leave him ending up as a friend.
Lawrence & Janice Nook - 47-year-old & 46-year-old: Neighbors who live across the street from the Magnums and Farrises, Larry and Jan are good friends with Jake and Phinn’s parents.
Eugene Gordon - 77-year-old: Primarily bald with some gray hair still left in the back and gray eyes. A friendly, chatty, and gossipy man, it’s no surprise that he’s a retired mail carrier. Lives on Clay Avenue, across the street and several homes down from the Bethunes.
Gilbert & Ruth Bethune - 78-year-old & 76-year-old: Gilbert has short, well-kept gray hair and blue eyes, while Ruth has neck-length white hair and amber eyes. A retired salesman and a secretary-turned homemaker, they live on Clay Avenue. Gilbert is pretty outgoing, while Ruth mostly stays silent. Both often volunteer or are involved in local events. Ruth doesn’t care for Busybody, Inc. due to a long-time issue with Dusty’s grandmother.
Charlotte & Amos Annable - 69-year-old & 74-year-old: A retired social studies teacher, Charlotte has served as the local alderwoman for the Marshall School neighborhood for the past twenty years. Part of Pamela’s extended gossip group, the alderwoman often sticks up for Phinn and Jake with the police and local government officials, while insisting that Phinn call her Aunt Charlotte. A retired insurance salesman, Amos, comes across as dour and silent. He’s best known around the neighborhood because of a horrible black dye job. His hair looks so bad that many people assume it to be a toupee, but Dusty’s accidental attempt to reveal so had backfired almost five years ago.
The Plouffes - A young family that lives next door to the Magnums on the corner of Madison Avenue and 34th Street. Three children under the age of five. The oldest, Howard, looks up to Jake, while his two sisters, Halle and Hester, love Bandit.
The Rieses - David, Kathleen, and their since-moved-away son, Derek. The neighbors on the other side of the Farrises. A conservative, religious family, they’re easily scandalized by Phinn and Putnam’s behavior, and they often attempt to get them punished. Kathleen is especially judgmental of Pamela’s success as a mother.
Friends/Classmates
Luke Ridley - 18-year-old: Short sandy brown hair and hazel eyes. A close friend of Jake’s, Luke, plays wide receiver on the North High football squad. His family owns a pair of boats that his friends often take out on the bay and the ocean. Met Jake and Phinn in junior high school, and might have helped Busybody, Inc. the most out of Jake’s football friends.
Andre Savard - 18-year-old: Black buzzcut hair, light brown eyes, and dark skin. A close friend of Jake’s, Andre, plays defensive end on the North High football squad.
Wallace Weems - Incoming Senior: Short, dark red hair, green eyes, and a slightly overweight figure. The stereotypical class clown, Wally never lets an opportunity pass without cracking a joke or playing a prank. Despite his close friendship with multiple athletes, he continually turns down the role of Pauly Puff, the school mascot. Attended Marshall Elementary School with Busybody Incorporated.
Kody O’Keefe- Incoming Senior: Short, unkempt, light brown hair, hazel eyes, and a thin, small stature. Always looking for a chance to make more money because he spends it faster than it comes in, Kody shares the honor of being the player who violates Coach Turnbull’s rule that his team not work part-time jobs with Jake Magnum. A member of the North High football team, where he fulfills both the placekicker and punter positions. Attended Marshall Elementary School with Busybody Incorporated.
Ethan Eldred - Incoming Senior: Short, auburn hair, brown eyes (eyeglasses), and a thin figure. A friendly bookworm, Ethan developed both habits while hanging around or working at Novel Nebula, his grandfather’s bookstore. Met Busybody, Inc. in junior high school, where he became good friends with Phinn and decent ones with Dusty. Never seemed to click with Jake. Helped on several investigations over the years. Best friends with Galen Nowicki, whom he met at the local comic book store while growing up. Has a crush on Quinn Rusch, the South High hot nerd and cosplayer.
Galen Nowicki - Incoming Senior: Curly brown hair with green eyes. Attends South High School. A chatty and opinionated young man, he’s a major comic book fan and collector. No coincidence, Galen works part-time at Villainville, Edgewater’s comic book shop. Met Phinn and Ethan at the store while growing up, becoming best friends with the latter. Always interested in being a part of an investigation, he’s hampered by Jake not liking geeks very much and his living on the south side of town. Good friends with Quinn Rusch, a fellow South High classmate.
Rick Valance - Incoming Senior: Short, stylish golden blonde hair. The self-proclaimed rival of Jake, Rick views the football star as his primary competition in bedding as many beautiful classmates and women in town. A past incident with Busybody, Inc., left Rick with an intense grudge toward Phinn. Good friends with Shane Grogan, he keeps Todd Haldorn around as a sort of lackey.
Todd Haldorn - Incoming Senior: Short dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, and a small stature. Seems to have a Napoleon complex because of his size, which causes him to act like a bully to many classmates. He often skates by getting in trouble thanks to his father’s friendship with Deputy Police Chief Reyhall. Met Rick Valance on the small peewee football team in grade school, and frequently follows him around like a minion. Has a pitbull named Toby. Attended Marshall Elementary School with Busybody Incorporated.
Shane Grogan - Incoming Senior: Shaved head, light brown eyes, and a stocky build. Sleazy and suggestive to women, Shane gets quite vocal after several beers. A fellow linebacker on the North High football team with Jake, they’re semi-friends, as Jake prefers not to feud with his teammate. Good friends with Rick Valance, and decent friends with Todd Haldorn.
Johanna Zay - Incoming Senior: Long chestnut brown hair, blue eyes, and medium-sized breasts. A high-strung, wannabe influencer, Johanna runs Zay Time!, her social media show. Seeking anything to make an impact, she covers lifestyle, fashion, entertainment, and gossip. Like many of her fellow classmates, Johanna has a crush on Jake.
Erin Donnelly - Incoming Senior: Neck-length cinnamon brown hair, green eyes (eyeglasses), and medium-sized breasts. The incoming editor of the North High Sonar. Attended Marshall Elementary School with Busybody Incorporated, where she sometimes served as a rival while trying to report on the same events. As fellow reporters, Erin had been good friends with Dusty for years. However, that goodwill usually doesn’t extend to Phinn.
Tara Hartel - Incoming Senior: Neck-length golden brown hair, amber eyes, medium-to-large breasts, and a toned ass. Officially elected co-captain of the North High cheer squad recently. A fiery, short-tempered young woman, she plans to run practices with a firm hand. Jake Magnum's ex-girlfriend, who broke up with him over his refusal to make her his top priority over his investigations. Can’t stand Phineas. Has a young brother, Thatcher. Currently dating Nathan Jordan.
Melody Mercer - Incoming Senior: Curly, shoulder-length, honey blonde hair, blue eyes, medium-to-large breasts, and a firm ass. Member of the North High cheer squad. An adorable young woman, people often claim she’s the sweetest and most innocent person they’ve ever met. Unfortunately, Melody might be the ditziest too. Close friends with new captain Sabrain Nunez and fellow cheerleader Yasmine Greco. Nearly all of the cheer squad feels protective of Melody. Additionally, Phinn is protective of his longtime classmate because she is one of the few people always kind to him. Attended Marshall Elementary School with Busybody Incorporated.
Yasmine Greco - Incoming Senior: Long, wavy, cappuccino brown hair, dark brown eyes, medium-sized breasts, and incredibly toned ass. Member of the North High cheer squad. Works part-time at Durand’s Gift Shop. A slender young woman, Yasmine, might be the most athletic cheerleader. Outside of Melody, she may be the most well-liked cheerleader.
Piper Alessi - Incoming Senior: Shoulder-length, light auburn hair, hazel eyes, medium-to-large breasts, and a toned ass. A hyper and highly competitive young woman, Piper often frightens her classmates with her intensity. Despite speculation among her male classmates about how her gymnastic skills might transfer into the bedroom, they’re usually **** to ask her out. Best friend with Allie LeClaire, whom she met at a young age in the town’s gymnastics program.
Edgewater Police Department
Chief Norberg - Usually one of the EPD’s few members who tolerates Phineas and Jake, the police chief is nearly out of patience with the pair. Norberg seems to have a soft spot for the junior investigators. However, after several cases where the teens had been caught breaking laws to catch the culprits, Chief Norberg declared them out of free passes. The recent Phantom Diver case was a wash for the teens in his mind.
Deputy Chief Reyhall - The EPD’s second-in-command, he’s spent years vowing to send Jake and Phinn to the juvenile detention center in Turnville. Now that they’re eighteen, Deputy Chief “Asshall” might be willing to toss the teen sleuths into the local jail if he gets his way. A close friend of the Haldrons, he often lets Todd off the hook when he gets in trouble.
Detective McCall - The lead robbery detective of the EPD, McCall vowed to deal with the meddling brats, who often upstaged his predecessor. So far, he’s been unsuccessful.
Officer Wishkoski - A young, friendly patrolman who is often flustered by the strange crimes committed in Edgewater. Probably the closest thing to a friend on the EPD for Jake and Phinn.
Criminals
Angelo “Monster” Manfredi - A professional and accomplished thief who is known to dress up in elaborate disguises or costumes to conduct his crimes. Although the list is likely longer, he’s known by law enforcement or teen detective groups to have dressed up as a bear, a moose, two museum exhibits, a gargoyle, and a pterodactyl. The latter is a mystery called one of the most embarrassing by The Wicked Riddle, and involved the Plot Probers. Busybody, Inc. clashed with Manfredi twice before Dusty moved away. The first didn’t involve an elaborate costume as Angelo wore all-black while conducting corporate espionage at Zuuntronic Systems, which he successfully avoided prosecution by escaping from a police paddy wagon. However, they met his Monster persona during the Etzler diamond Heist a year and a half later in The Case of the Missing Gargoyle. Manfredi vowed to get **** on the three teens before he was sent to Mug Jug, the state prison.
Edgewater Citizens
Zelda Imhoff - 30-years-old: Long dark red hair, green eyes, and medium-to-large breasts. The assistant head librarian at Dillingday Library. Zelda often helps the teen detectives on their cases. Zelda is an intelligent woman who can also be a smartass to her favorite teens.
Kathryn “Katie” Pettit - 28-years-old: Honey brown hair, blue eyes, and medium-sized breasts. An anthropology professor at Bentworth College. Katie began lending a hand or advice to Busybody, Inc. while still a doctoral student. Since she arrived, Katie has become good friends with Pamela Farris.
Cheyanne Cudahy - 21-year-old: Long, wavy, milk chocolate brown hair, green eyes, and large breasts. Works part-time in the summer at Magnum’s Sports Bar as a waitress. A member of Liberty Magnum’s close clique, she’s best friends with Abby LeClaire. A flirty, outgoing young woman, Cheyanne earns plenty of tips and contact information, which leads to many dates.
Zoe Foster - 21-year-old: Pixie-cut medium brown hair, dark brown eyes, and medium-sized breasts. A member of Liberty Magnum’s close clique of friends, Zoe tends to drift in and out. A quirky young woman, she’s not as eccentric as her younger sister, Zaina, with whom Jake and Phinn attended grade school. However, she often displays odd behavior at the most inappropriate times.
Elexus “Lexi” Zamora - 23-year-old: Shoulder-length hair, currently dyed ash blonde, amber eyes, large breasts, and a firm ass. A bartender at Magnum’s Sports Bar. Gorgeous with a high sex drive, Lexi is popular on social media and is considering the option of starting a spicier account. A longtime crush of Jake’s, he finally had his dream come true a few weeks ago while investigating her co-worker’s life.
Gomer “Gabby” Gibson - Late sixties: The owner of a corner tap on the north side, Gabby is a regular gossipmonger around Edgewater. Unfortunately, Busybody, Inc. hasn’t been able to take advantage of his knowledge very often because he spends most of his time at his bar. A member of the North High championship football team that’s celebrating their 50th anniversary this fall, Gabby’s been out and about more often lately.
