Chapter 10

What's next?
The Parking Lot
The apartment somehow gets louder again the second the four of you decide to leave.
Not because there are more people.
Because now there’s nobody left balancing the chaos out.
No Maya telling Lexi to calm down.
No Chris awkwardly grounding conversations.
No pretending this night is still remotely normal.
Now it’s just:
you,
Kenzie,
Rob,
and Lexi.
Which honestly feels dangerous immediately.
Kenzie grabs her purse off the counter while Lexi nearly trips trying to shove her phone into the waistband of those tiny gray shorts.
“We are SO going to regret this tomorrow,” Rob says proudly.
“Shut up and move,” Kenzie replies while laughing.
The four of you stumble out into the hallway still buzzing from ****, music, and adrenaline. The apartment door barely closes behind you before Lexi already starts yelling another song lyric loud enough to echo through the building.
“You’re gonna get us evicted,” you tell her.
“I’m adding personality,” Lexi argues.
Outside, cold night air hits all of you immediately.
And somehow it makes everything feel even more reckless.
Kenzie hugs herself briefly against the chill while laughing at something Lexi says. Under the parking lot lights, her messy blonde hair glows softly around flushed cheeks while the black tube top still hugs tightly around her breasts after hours of dancing and drinking.
And somehow those shorts still look impossibly tiny.
The bottoms of her ass cheeks still peek out underneath the frayed denim every time she walks.
Your eyes catch there automatically again.
Kenzie notices.
The smug little smile she gives you afterward says she absolutely notices.
“So who’s driving?” Lexi asks dramatically.
“I can drive,” Rob says immediately.
“You absolutely cannot drive,” you reply.
“I’m literally great at driving drunk.”
“That sentence alone disqualified you.”
“I’m serious.”
“You almost walked into a wall leaving the apartment.”
“That wall came outta nowhere.”
Kenzie bursts out laughing beside you.
Honestly?
You weren’t planning on driving either.
You’ve definitely been drinking.
But then your brain immediately flashes back to earlier in the Uber.
You guys need to take more fun risks.
And the way Kenzie had looked at you while saying it.
Combined with the fact that you’re still probably the most functional person here somehow.
Yeah.
That’s enough to completely kill the smart part of your brain.
“I’ll drive,” you say.
Rob looks at you immediately.
“You’ve been drinking too.”
“I’m still driving better than you.”
Kenzie points dramatically at you afterward.
“Oh my GOD,” she says while laughing. “He’s trying to impress me.”
“No I’m not.”
“You literally are.”
You grin slightly despite yourself.
“Maybe a little.”
Kenzie smiles wider afterward.
And fuck.
The reaction alone almost makes the bad decision feel worth it.
“Well,” Kenzie says while spinning your keys once around her finger after stealing them from your hand, “if we die tonight at least we died entertaining.”
“You are the worst influence I’ve ever met.”
“That’s not true,” Lexi says proudly from behind her.
Honestly?
Fair.
The second you unlock the car, Kenzie immediately walks around and opens the passenger door for herself without even asking.
Shotgun.
Like it was already decided.
And for some reason that tiny detail hits harder than expected.
Meanwhile Lexi practically launches herself into the backseat beside Rob while laughing at absolutely nothing.
The inside of the car immediately fills with overlapping noise.
Music.
Shouting.
Kenzie trying to pull up directions on her phone while half-drunk.
Lexi somehow already halfway laying across the backseat.
And honestly?
The second you start driving, the entire vibe changes again.
Something about being in the car together suddenly feels more intimate than the apartment did.
Smaller space.
Closer bodies.
The glow of dashboard lights sliding across Kenzie’s legs while she sits beside you with one knee tucked slightly toward your side.
Her tiny shorts somehow look even shorter sitting down.
Every few seconds your eyes drift there automatically before forcing themselves back to the road.
Kenzie notices at least twice.
She doesn’t say anything.
Just smiles faintly to herself before continuing directions.
“Okay,” she says while looking at her phone. “You’re gonna turn right up here.”
“Yes ma’am.”
“Oh my GOD,” Lexi suddenly yells from the backseat. “He’s flirting.”
“I’m literally giving directions,” Kenzie replies.
“That’s foreplay.”
Kenzie laughs hard enough that she leans briefly against your shoulder.
Then—
something changes in the backseat.
You hear it before you fully process it.
The sudden quiet.
Then muffled laughing.
Then definitely kissing.
You glance up into the rearview mirror.
And Jesus Christ.
Lexi is fully on top of Rob in the backseat making out with him like they forgot the rest of you exist. One of her hands grips his jaw while his hands stay locked around her waist, pulling her tighter against him every few seconds.
And honestly?
The energy changes instantly.
More reckless.
More physical.
More dangerous.
Kenzie notices too.
“Oh my GOD,” she says while laughing. “Can you two relax for like five minutes?”
They completely ignore her.
Lexi kisses him again immediately afterward.
Harder this time.
“Gross,” you say aloud.
Lexi just laughs breathlessly against him before kissing him again anyway.
And somehow the entire thing makes Kenzie laugh harder instead of getting uncomfortable.
“This is SUCH a bad idea,” she says while shaking her head.
“You suggested it,” you remind her.
Kenzie looks toward you again underneath the glow of the dashboard lights.
And for a second—
the whole car suddenly feels weirdly charged.
Her thigh rests close enough to yours that you can feel warmth through your jeans. One hand stays lightly braced against the center console while she watches you drive with that same amused little smile she’s had most of the night.
Like she’s enjoying seeing how far you’ll go for her.
Meanwhile the backseat somehow gets worse.
Lexi fully climbs into Rob’s lap at one point while still making out with him, and the movement rocks the entire car slightly.
“HEY,” you say immediately.
“What?” Lexi asks innocently while barely pulling away from him.
“I’m driving.”
“That sounds like a you problem.”
Kenzie nearly folds forward laughing.
“You two are actually insane,” she says.
“Wait till the party,” Lexi replies proudly.
The drive keeps going after that in loud bursts of music, bad directions, and occasional yelling every time you miss a turn because Kenzie gets distracted laughing at something happening behind you.
At one point she grabs your arm suddenly.
“No wait— LEFT HERE.”
“You said right.”
“I changed my mind.”
“That is NOT how roads work.”
“You’ll survive.”
And honestly?
Somewhere during the drive, you realize you haven’t stopped smiling in almost twenty minutes.
The entire night feels completely out of control now.
But in the best possible way.
Then eventually—
you see it.
Lights.
Cars lining the street.
Music loud enough to hear from outside.
A massive crowded house glowing underneath porch lights while groups of drunk people spill across the lawn holding drinks.
And immediately Lexi screams from the backseat.
“THERE IT IS.”
Kenzie grins beside you while pointing toward the house.
“Told you this was gonna get worse.”
You pull toward the curb while bass rattles through the windows from half a block away.
People crowd the front lawn.
Someone’s already yelling from the roof.
The party looks completely unhinged.
And somehow?
Kenzie looks even more excited seeing it.
She turns toward you with flushed cheeks and messy blonde hair underneath the streetlights while music pounds through the night around all of you.
“Okay,” she says while smiling dangerously.
“Now the fun starts.”
