Chapter 2 by Zekar Zekar

What option do you pick?

The Modern Dr. Jekyll

In the quiet solitude of his home laboratory, John worked meticulously over his latest experiment. His desk was cluttered with glass beakers, test tubes, and vials of various chemicals. The air was filled with the faint aroma of acetone and the soft hum of the fluorescent lights above. The project at hand was ambitious: a modern twist on the classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde potion.

John had always been fascinated by the idea of duality—the concept of one person embodying two distinct personas. His goal was to create a potion that would allow the drinker to separate their personality into two distinct entities, much like the original story. The key difference in his version was that he aimed to modernize the concept, using advanced biochemical techniques to achieve the transformation.

He carefully measured out the ingredients, his mind focused on the task. The potion was designed to alter the drinker’s genetic expression, allowing them to switch between two distinct identities. As he mixed the chemicals, John was deep in thought, unaware of the subtle changes taking place.

With a final flourish, he added a few drops of a new, experimental compound—one he had developed to enhance the potion’s effectiveness. He’d tested it in preliminary experiments and it had shown promising results. This was the final step before he could test the potion on himself.

John stirred the mixture, watching as it turned a deep shade of violet. The potion shimmered with an iridescent glow, a sign that the compound had integrated seamlessly. He poured the liquid into a clean vial and labeled it “Sample A.” The label seemed almost ordinary, hiding the extraordinary potential of what lay inside.

He examined the vial, the violet liquid swirling enticingly. His excitement was palpable, a mix of anticipation and nervousness. The potion was ready, and he was about to take the next step in his experiment.

John set the vial on his desk and took a moment to review his notes once more. Everything seemed to be in order, but he couldn't shake a nagging feeling that something might be amiss. He glanced at the vial, the liquid within shimmering with an almost hypnotic quality.
