What's next?

The King is dead Long Live Queen Amelia.

The messenger had relayed his message and then departed leaving the Helena alone with just the guards stationed there. She called for Princess Amelia as she contemplated the news. Little did Amelia know that her world would change forever within minutes when she entered the grandiose chamber known as "The Throne Room". As she hesitantly approached her mother’s side, her heart raced with curiosity - a mixture of trepidation and excitement. She couldn't help feeling drawn towards the sense of power in the room, reflected not only from the majestic furniture, nor the finely carved wooden panels lining the walls and ceiling, but primarily from the very essence that lay embedded deep within its core. Princess Amelia took her seat next to her mother. Queen Helena looked at Amelia then informed her of the news "Your father and my husband the king has been killed by bandits along with his escort said Helena. Amelia gasped audibly in shock unable to comprehend the reality of such tragedy." Amelia felt an immediate pang of sorrow overwhelming her body as tears began forming in her eyes. In response, Princess Amelia clutched onto her royal garments tightly trying to compose herself. Feeling distraught over the loss of her father yet knowing she must stay strong for the people who relied upon her. Queen Helena continued "As per the laws of Sarella the crown passes to the Kings children which means Amelia that you are now Queen of Sarella said Helena. Amelia was stunned into silence, taking a moment to process these words before looking up at her mother's face.

Her eyes widened slightly at the enormity of it all—the burden placed on her shoulders so suddenly." Queen Helena noticed how shaken her daughter seemed as if understanding her feelings added further stress to this already heavy situation. Reassuringly, she put a hand on Amelia's shoulder, offering support and comfort to her beloved child. “Though we will mourn our dearest King together,” Queen Helena started, “know that I am here for you. We shall find strength amongst ourselves.” Grateful for her mother's presence, Amelia nodded slowly and reached out to hold hands with Queen Helena. “We must prepare immediately,” said Queen Helena, snapping back to focus on the task ahead. As they began discussing strategies for dealing with the impending challenges and responsibilities brought forth by Amelia's new title, the atmosphere became more serious than ever. Amelia became Queen as soon as her father passed but the official coronation would be after the state funeral. They were still grieving, however, preparations had to continue apace, since their country needed them to be stable. Queen Helena explained to Amelia that it wasn't merely politics that awaited her, but also romance. The kingdom required heirs, and soon too. It was time for the princess to understand that her duty extended beyond ruling, and encompassed matters far closer to home. Helena now would have the title of the Queen Mother. Soon the news spread around the palace and knights and ladies all came to pledge their loyalty to Queen Amelia.

Despite being devastated by the recent events, Amelia was filled with pride to see how everyone stepped forward to support her during these hard times. After attending various meetings and ceremonies throughout the day, the sun finally set, casting an eerie orange hue across the sky. Amidst this melancholic setting, Queen mother Helena knew that it was essential to provide some solace and comfort to her newly-appointed successor. Queen Amelia now occupied the ornate golden throne and struggling to hold back her tears she proclaimed that the kingdom would observe three days of mourning. This proclamation instilled a solemn air among those present. While maintaining composure externally, internally she battled with waves of despair. But Amelia understood well enough that displaying weakness at this crucial juncture wouldn't serve anyone any good. Thus, she resolutely turned her attention towards ensuring continuity despite the tragic circumstances. The meeting hall was abuzz with activity as plans were discussed and decisions made regarding security measures, diplomatic relations, and internal affairs. Throughout the deliberations, Amelia demonstrated intelligence, tact, and wisdom well beyond her years. Her natural empathy enabled her to connect easily with others, fostering trust and respect. Meanwhile, her courage in facing unimaginable adversity won admiration and allegiance. Queen Amelia found refuge in her personal chambers, where she tried to find solace amid the turmoil.

Overcome with exhaustion, she sought rest underneath lavish satin sheets, surrounded by ornately crafted pillows embroidered with intricate patterns. Although her thoughts were filled with questions about the future, sleep eventually claimed her frazzled psyche. Upon awakening, she realized that morning light streamed through her window, illuminating dust particles suspended in the warm glow of dawn. Closing her eyes again briefly, she decided against returning to slumber and instead rose to greet another challenging day.
