Chapter 18
by Wyrda
There's only one place you can think to go...
The Inn!
You're thirsty, and you have 100 gold to spend and a successful quest to celebrate! Your first official quest! And it was a real hard one. Though your ass still ached because of your methods. It was the only logical way you tell yourself, but still. At least the mayor seemed to respect you! You'd been invited to dinner after all! You had identified the inn earlier, a large building with the light streaming out of all the windows at this time could only be an inn. It was by far the biggest source of light in Barrowden, shining like a blazing star in the cold, dark space that was Barrowden after dark. It was just before midnight, judging by the position of the stars, and that meant plenty of hours to drink! Your body was tingling with excitement. You'd never had the chance to go hog wild before, never having the money or the means to procure enough ****. The matron was very stern about drink, saying that it could lead some sisters down a very dangerous road. You knew she was just over cautious, as elders usually were. Tonight, you were going to get druuunk!
Finally getting to the door, you smiled to yourself, and then strode in. The brightness of the interior nearly blinded you, your elven eyes having adjusted to the darkness outside. After blinking a few times, you were greeted to a rather merry sight. There were two long tables of about 10 seats each side to your right and left, occupied irregularly patrons, each with their drinks. There were stools and smaller, circular tables dotted around as well, with no rhyme nor reason as to why they were where they were. You attracted your fair share of stares, with near half of the 20 something drinkers gawping at you for a few seconds before they tactfully looked away. You recognised different expressions though. Some seemed angry, others seemed respectful, but most had eyefucked you for a few seconds. Ignoring the growing heat in your cheeks, you marched forward, past the tables, and towards the bar. Behind was the innkeeper, who was washing a few tankards before looking up suddenly and catching your eye. He was a plump, rotund man with a rather bushy moustache. His cheeks were red and merry, and after a moment of open mouthed shock at the fully armoured, incredibly pretty paladin woman walking towards him, his face broke into a smile. "Welcome, welcome to the Farmers Arms! I'm Inkeep Barliman! But you can just call me Keeps. Everyone else does!" He said in a booming, yet friendly voice, seeming to big for a man about as tall as you, which was quite shocking for your 5'2 self. You offered him a friendly incline of your head and allowed yourself a smile, before sitting at the bar on one of the stools.
"Hello Barliman, my name is Eleanor. I'm a paladin from River's Edge." Recognition spreads across the innkeeper's face, and he nods rapidly. "And I would like a room and breakfast." He nods.
"Well that'll be 75 silver." The friendly looking innkeeper says with a jolly smile. You nod with a smile, and place a single gold piece on the bar.
"That's for the room. And the rest of the gold will go towards buying drinks." A sweet smile spreads across your smile at this, while the innkeep raises his eyebrows.
"W-Well Missy that'll be..." He does the maths in his head. "25 of our finest. O-Or 50 of the normal stuff." You tell him you'll go for the finest. Why the hell not? You had rid all of these people of a dire threat, after all. You deserve this! Plus, you needed something to kill the pain of sitting down. He quickly gives you the key for your lodgings, and tells you that your room is the first on the left up the stairs, before busying himself with getting your drink.
Soon enough, the first of your drink arrives in a great big tankard, frothy and cold. You sip, and the flavour hits you instantly. Mm. It tastes good. Soon enough, you've finished one tankard, and you move on to the next one. One down... 25 to go. By the time you finished the 3rd, chatting merrily with Barliman, your cheeks feel warm, and the innkeep comments on your rosy cheeks in an amused fashion. Turns out your paladinic constitution can only make up for so much when it comes to a 5'2 girl who's practically never touched **** before.
However, the question soon comes, how much do you drink? You're getting a few looks from the other patrons, and one seems to be counting how many tankards you've drained. Maybe getting drunk isn't the best idea... But at the same time, you deserve this!
Drinking is fun...
