The Hole

Finally, I was dropped where most inmates are dropped after their fight with other inmates are caught by the guards, in the Hole. Known by most people as solitary confinement it is perhaps one of the most tormenting punishments a modern society can give a prisoner, and even then the UN considers any solitary confinement over 15 days ****.

To those who don't know solitary confinement is when you are left alone in a cell for at least a few hours though those who got into solitary confinement due to a fight are in for at least 23 hours. While you're there you have no contact with any other human for the entirety of your stay, and while this experience may sound like heaven to you readers who only find enjoyment in human interaction when you read about it it can be hell to any normal person for an extended period of time.

So that is where I will stay for a full day, and I still haven't had lunch.

5 Hours In

...

The sun is setting, I can see that from my only source of light. Soon it will be pitch black in this tiny room, and I am still starving. There has been no contact from the guards since I was left here, hopefully, they will remember to get me out by lunchtime tomorrow. A lesser man might have already started losing their mind by now, but I am no lesser man.

I should go to sleep now though.

9 Hours In

...

It has been four hours since the sun has set and I have still yet to have fallen asleep. I hear soft muffled voices in the night, whether this is signs of me finally going full crazy or people outside having a laugh at my experience I don't know what it is. I hope eventually I can pass out from hunger and sleep deprivation so that I can fix one of those problems. With any luck, I may even sleep for 15 hours and wake up to me finally getting out of the Hole and getting some food.

16 Hours In

...

I wasn't so lucky...

I passed out at the 10-hour mark and slept for 6 hours. The voices have only gotten louder but they aren't much clearer. It is almost like it isn't voices but just noises. I also realized the noise is coming from my head as I heard a guard walk outside to guard me and as they talk on the phone I hear no other person from their side.

I thought the Hole was supposed to be silent not so mind-numbing loud.

21 Hours In

...

3 hours left...

My only solace is in that knowledge. I don't know how I can tell the time so clearly but I just know it somehow. Perhaps I am wrong somehow? Maybe I have 10. I can't survive for that long.

The noises have only got louder and I can now confirm they aren't voices. Just white noise, like static from an old television or radio. To keep me sane I began reminiscing about the outside world paying particular note to what got me here in the first place.
