What surprises her?
The High School of Megan's Dreams
Original Megan had thought her family's mansion was palatial, but the high school in this reality literally looked like a palace. It was thanks to multiple wishes that this version of Megan had asked her mother to make, of course -- with her magically-enhanced looks and popularity, she actually wanted to go to school, but just wanted the best possible building in which to do so.
Megan pulled her sports car into a space in the row reserved for honor students and started walking briskly toward the school. Despite the magical life this Megan had grown up with, Original Megan could tell that she was nevertheless a bit amazed at her new ability to move in her high-heeled boots as easily as anyone else would in bare feet.
She said hello to a couple of her cheerleader friends, who were hanging out on the lawn before the school day started -- they were also wearing the skimpy uniform that Megan had wished for -- but didn't stop to chat. She had somewhere to be.
Walking through the marble-tiled hallway, past the double-wide lockers with fingerprint readers, it wasn't long before she turned and went through a set of double doors and into a TV studio.
Original Megan knew this was because Megan was the "anchorwoman" for the morning announcements. Her own version of this high school had video announcements as well, but their studio was barely larger than a broom closet with a tiny desk in it -- this one looked more appropriate for the "CBS Evening News."
Despite the complexity of the equipment in the control room, the morning announcements were apparently simple enough that there only needed to be one technician -- in the form of a short, acne-ridden, glasses-wearing guy in a green-and-white plaid button-up short-sleeved shirt -- and the obligatory teacher sitting in the back in a suit with a green-and-white striped tie, paying more attention to an iPad than anything else.
"Good morning, Mr. Daniels," said Megan. He made a noncommittal wave in her direction.
"Uh, the prompter is loaded, and we're all set to go," said the nerd, only vaguely glancing in her direction.
Megan walked over to where he was sitting and leaned on the console. "Arthur, you're 18, right?"
The expression on his face was suddenly a combination of "I can't believe this goddess knows my name" and "Gotta keep from staring at her giant tits, even though they're at my eye level right now." He managed to squeak out, "Y-yes, I know I don't look like it, but it's been a couple months -- I mean, it's late enough in the school year that most of the seniors are --"
Megan held up a hand, and Arthur's mouth shut immediately. Being supremely attractive was almost as good as having magic. "Okay," she said, and stood up. "You are going to have a very good day." She turned on her heels, walked into the main studio, and sat down at the anchor desk. The robotic cameras whirred into position. A digital clock attached to one of them counted up the seconds.
It hit 7:45:00, and theme music started playing. On the monitor built into her desk, Megan could see the montage of scenes from around the school campus. A professional announcer's voice said, "Live from Washington High School, it's the morning announcements with Megan Bishop."
Megan looked up, straight into the camera with the glowing red light on it, and smiled. "Good morning, Warriors," she said, reading the words that were projected in front of the camera lens. "Happy Friday, and happy spring spirit day. It's so nice to see everyone in their Washington green and white. After our cool morning, it'll be warming up the rest of the day -- 72 degrees and sunny this afternoon."
And then she diverged from the script.
What does Megan say?
