The Hero's New Clothes

So far, Linkle had been having a fairly pleasant 18th birthday. Well, okay, she had quite nearly fallen from the lookout point when Aryll woke her up, but the fact that it was a nice enough day to take a nap in the sun kind of proved her point anyway.

Now, however, it was time to see what Grandma's "Birthday Surprise" was all about. She hoped it was a boat. It would be so cool to have her own boat! But when Linkle got home, not only was there a notable lack of boat, there was a notable lack of anything. Her Grandma appeared to be handing her a great big armful of nothing.

"Here you go dear, these are the ceremonial clothes of the hero. As I'm sure you already know, it's a tradition on this island to spend your 18th birthday wearing these clothes. Oh, but these are a bit special. They say that the thread I wove these from can only be seen by the pure of heart."

Linkle was about to accuse her Grandma of trying to play a prank on her when said clothes were dumped into her arms. They definitely existed; Linkle could feel them, if not see them. Which probably reflected poorly on her as a person, if what her Grandma said was true. Maybe it would be better to just pretend she could see the clothes.

"Now hurry up dear, and change. You've got quite a day ahead of you!"

Oh, crap. That was right, she actually had to wear them. Pure of heart or not, she wasn't looking forward to spending her birthday in clothes that she could see right through. This wasn't going to be fun.
