Where downtown is the family going?
The Hancock Center
The other black skyscraper in Chicago - the one with the angled lines and not straight up and down - the John Hancock Center was built in the 1960's as the world's first building with tubular construction and sky lobbies, and to this day offers stunning views of Lake Michigan. Its skydeck allows viewers to grab onto handles on the panes of glass and be angled down right down onto the city - this provided an adrenaline rush that Renee was lacking since she graduated from hockey and softball, and was the reason she chose it over the glass boxes on the Willis Tower. (And also, she didn't want to hear her parents keep calling it the "Sears" Tower.)
After a few trains and busses, and a long elevator ride, everyone was up top at the observation tower and ready gaze down, especially Renee.
