The First Meeting
The next morning, I arrived at the gallery at exactly ten o’clock. Emma was waiting for me at the entrance. She’s nervous, her hands clasped in front of her, her eyes darting around the room.
“Ms. Copeland,” she says, extending her hand. “It’s an honor to meet you.”
“Please, call me Ruth.”
She nods, still nervous. “I’ve heard so much about you. About your family. About the Paradigm.”
I smile. “I’m sure you have.”
I led her to a quiet corner of the gallery. We sat down at a small table. I offer her tea. She accepts, her hands trembling slightly.
“I understand you’re interested in the Paradigm,” I say.
She nods. “Yes. Very interested. I’ve been reading about it for years. I’ve been talking to other potential pets. I think ... I think I want this.”
I lean forward. “Tell me why.”
She takes a deep breath. “I’ve always felt invisible. Like I was just ... passing through life. Like I was watching everyone else live, and I was just ... there.”
I nod, encouraging her to continue.
“I’ve never felt like I belonged anywhere. Not with my family. Not with my friends. Not in my career. I’ve always felt like I was pretending. Like everyone was pretending. And then I found the Paradigm, and I realized ... I don’t want to pretend anymore. I want to be real. I want to belong. I want to be seen.”
Tears streamed down her face.
“Please,” she whispers. “Please help me.”
I reach across the table and take her hand.
“Emma, I can help you. I can give you what you’re looking for. A home. A purpose. A belonging. But you need to understand: this is not a game. This is not a fantasy. This is a commitment. A permanent commitment.”
She nods, still crying. “I understand.”
“Once you become my pet, there’s no going back. You will be sterilized. You will be collared. You will be nude. You will be mine. Forever.”
“I understand.”
“Then say it. Say you want this.”
She looks up at me, her eyes bright with tears and conviction.
“I want this. I want to be your pet. I want to be yours.”
