The Family Reunion – Karen and Ted Wheeler

Mike quickly pulls up his pants and, with his face still flushed, heads home. As he walked, a sudden memory hit him: he had forgotten his keys. With his heart racing and feeling the adrenaline of the situation, he noticed noises coming from the entrance. Cautiously, he approached the door and looked out the window.

Inside, the family scene unfolded before his eyes. Karen Wheeler, his mother, was in the living room, absorbed in going through a stack of letters, with an expression of slight concern that contrasted with the warmth of the environment. At her side, Ted Wheeler, his father, laughed softly while maintaining a conversation in a relaxed tone, without seeming to worry about anything outside of the everyday.

The contrast between the serenity of his parents and the storm of emotions that overwhelmed Mike was abysmal. With the recent memory of the humiliation still fresh in his mind, every detail of the scene reminded him that, despite his shame, the family was always there. However, facing them in this state produced a knot in his stomach, and he stood paralyzed for a few moments, afraid to explain what had happened and wishing, at the same time, to find a way to erase the embarrassing episode.
