Chapter 2 by storysmith storysmith

What do I do now?

The Ex

Hayley and Max had started dating about five months ago but it only lasted for a few months, at the time Hayley was trying again to settle down from her seemingly constant life of sleeping around. She had a need to fuck every day, she hated when she was single and didn't like to masturbate, it just wasn't the same so she ended up finding random guys to fuck and would rather find the one but dating is hard and after some fun with Max she wanted to move on.

Hayley and Max had fun for a few months, she was finishing her thesis and was graduating and becoming a junior professor at the university Max worked in IT and she studied at, he was still the same IT guy she'd thought was interesting but she didn't see him going anywhere.

Hayley had dumped Max just after her graduation ceremony as she was confirmed in her new job. She knew it would be awkward for them both to be working at the same place but she didn't think it would be a problem for her, she was used to seeing a long line of her exes and one-night stands so didn't think much of it.

Almost three months had passed since the breakup and Max was still obsessed with Hayley. He'd arranged to drop off a box of Hayley's stuff she'd left at his place and collect a box of his stuff and Hayley wasn't looking forward to the interaction. She felt sorry for the little man, he was twice her size but she thought of him as beneath her intellectually.

Hayley had been a genie for a little over six weeks now and after hiding her lamp at the back of her wardrobe she's tried to move on as normal but seeing the lamp as she filled a box with things Max had left at her place filled her with dread so she quickly pushed it further to the back of the wardrobe and finished packing up Max's stuff.

Hayley had been doing her best to hide her bonds, the gold choker around her neck and the wide gold bands around her wrists, she'd taken to wearing turtle neck sweaters at work to hide the choker and cuffs, she thought in passing again about how she could gain her freedom, perhaps she could trick someone else into making three wishes, but it only lasted a moment as she felt the choker tighten slightly which over the past six weeks had trained her to stop that train of thought.

In the days after John had died Hayley had tried to think of all manner of ways to escape her new life as a genie but every time she tried to think of escaping she soon felt the collar punishing her, it had conditioned her to stop trying to escape and accept her new life. The most resistance she seemed to be allowed was hiding the lamp and trying to move on with her life.

There was a knock at the door, it was Max, Hayley greeted him with a smile and tried to be pleasant but the first thing she saw was the beaming smile on the idiot's face as he thrust a bunch of flowers at her. Her heart sank, he wasn't going to make this easy for her.

Hayley welcomed him in and tried to be kind, as he offered the flowers again to Hayley she refused and in a pitying tone she told him that it probably wasn't appropriate as they weren't dating anymore.

Max look dejected as he clutched a bag with the bits she'd left at his place, he had intentionally left a brush and a book of hers out in case he wanted an excuse to visit her again.

Max steeled himself and continued to smile and asked how she was doing as he handed her the bag dropping the flowers to his side, trying to recover from the unwanted gesture.

Hayley told him she was doing really well, work was intense but she was enjoying it and she'd even met someone and had been seeing them for about a month now.

Max's face went white then red as he process what she had just said.

Hayley thought she could see his heartbreaking and felt terrible. She pushed forward giving Max a hug and told him that her new boyfriend's name was Gearmo.

Max recognised the name, it couldn't be he thought.

Hayley explained that he was a Spanish lecturer at the university and she was deeply in love, she was even thinking that he might be the one.

Hayley saw Max start to sweat as she saw his heart wrench again, she remembered how he'd told her he loved her and even proposed on a weekend trip they'd taken late in their relationship. Max knew he and Hayley probably weren't going to go the distance but he loved her with all his heart and couldn't bear her to be with someone else, especially not this Gearmo.

Hayley knew she wasn't going to get tied down to Max and wanted to make it clear they were through one final time. Sure her time with Max was fun sometimes but she wanted to travel and learn different languages and Max just didn't have the prospects she was after.

Max after hearing about how great Gearmo was and how besotted Hayley was with him, he had never felt worse.

Seeing the box Hayley had put together for him, Max made some awkward but polite excuses taking the box and leaving as quickly as he could.

Hayley was relieved to see the back of Max and even though she knew she would still see him around at work sometimes she didn't care, she turned her thoughts to the date she had later with Gearmo and felt her heart soar.
