The Drive To School
NOTE: I am back to writing for Big Lake now. I am sorry it took me so long to get back to this, but I wanted to add more characters and locations through the small town. You might want to go and take a look at that because some of the new characters will appear in this first chapter. The new title for this thread is going to be "Life In Big Lake." I hope you all enjoy this new chapter and please let me know in the comments what you think. Thanks.
. . .
It was the first day of his senior year and he didn’t want to be late, so Patrick took a quick shower and got ready for his day before heading downstairs and seeing his mother already cooking breakfast for him and his sister.
“Good morning, honey. Are you ready for your last first day of high school?” Josephine Moore asked.
“I am. I just hope everything goes well this year.” Patrick said.
“I am sure it will. Here, eat your breakfast. You don’t want to be late.” Josephine said.
“If it were up to me, I wouldn’t be, but having to wait for Sue might make me late though.” Patrick said with a chuckle and his mom could help but laugh as well.
Patrick was about done eating his breakfast when he saw that his younger sister still hadn’t made it downstairs yet. He was starting to get antsy so he could help but yell up the stairs at his sister.
“Sue. If you want breakfast you better hurry up.” Patrick yelled out.
Just then he heard the stairs squeaking a bit, showing that his sister, Sue was on the way downstairs. Sue smiled brightly at her mother and brother as she reached the bottom of the steps.
“Good morning, Patrick and mom.” Sue said as she took a seat at the table.
“Good morning, sweetie. Here is your breakfast.” Josephine said as she set a plate in front of her youngest daughter.
“About time you got down here. I thought you were going to make us late.” Patrick said.
“Hold your horses, dipshit. We have plenty of time to pick up the Goldbergs and get to school.” Sue said.
“Sue, language.” Josephine said to her daughter.
“Sorry mom.” Sue said as she went about eating her breakfast.
It didn’t take either of the teens long to finish their breakfast and get the rest of the stuff that they would need for their first day of school. Josephine was the first to leave since she needed to get to work. Once the teens were done, they made their way to Patrick’s truck so they could get to school.
Soon they were on the way and it didn’t take them long at all to Sasha’s house. The three Goldberg sisters were waiting for them to show up so it didn’t take long for them to get in the vehicle.
“Sue, get in the back seat with Sam and Siri.” Patrick said.
“What?! You’re throwing me out of the front seat?” Sue asked in surprise.
“Yep.” was all Patrick said and his sister got out of her seat and got in the back seat.
Sasha got in the front seat and Sue got a window seat behind her brother, with Sam sitting in the middle and Siri got the other window seat. The reason they had this seating arrangement is because when Sue and Siri got together, they always caused trouble even though there was a two year age difference between the two. Sam was Sue’s best friend, though and she was trying to open her up a bit more since she was a very reserved girl.
“Why do I always have to sit in the middle?” Sam asked as she hated being the one who had to keep an eye on the troublesome siblings.
“Well, Sue is your best friend and Siri is your sister, so it only makes sense that you keep them quiet.” Sasha said.
“Siri is your sister too.” Sam said.
“Yeah, she is, but I am not Sue’s best friend.” Sasha said and Sam grumbled at this.
“Oh come on Sam, it’s not that bad sitting between us.” Sue said.
“If you say so.” Sam said.
“So Patrick, how was your summer? I didn’t see you around that often.” Siri asked.
“It was fun. Especially the camping trip.” Patrick said.
“I can’t wait for next summer, when I get to have my first alone camping trip.” Sue said.
“I am scared to even think what you might get into.” Sam said which caused her friend to look at her and smile brightly.
“You know you love me. I wish I could get you to open up a bit more though.” Sue said with a bright smile.
“Hey, I know how to have fun.” Sam said with a pout on her face since she knew that her best friend and her younger sister were about to gang up on her.
“Please. You are always so serious. If nothing else, you could be like Sasha. She is reserved, but she knows how to let loose when she needs to.” Siri said.
“Are you calling me stuck up?” Sam asked as she glared at her sister.
“If the shoe fits.” Siri said.
“You know what. I am done with the conversation.” Sam said, but Siri wasn’t done yet.
“See, you got the permanent stick up your ass. You need to loosen up a bit.” Siri said.
“I don’t have a stick up my ass, Siri. I just want to do well in school so I can get into a good college.” Sam said.
“Siri, leave her alone. She is different from you. Leave it be.” Sasha said as she turned around and looked at her sisters.
“Fine.” Siri said and Sam let out a small smile to thank her older sister.
“So, what did you do this summer Sasha? I mean other than starting to date my brother?” Sue asked.
“Well, I hug out with the girls a lot, but lately I have been doing a lot with the cheer/dance team, since I am one of the captains and we need to have a good week of practice before the game on Friday.” Sasha said.
“Yeah, tell me about it. I know everything that is going on with each of the dances and cheers since I was one of her test subjects.” Sam said since she and Sasha had been working on the routines for the past couple of weeks.
“What about Sophia? She didn’t help any?” Patrick asked.
“Oh, she was at our house most every day. She was a huge help.” Sasha said.
“I thought she became part of the family, she has been at the house so often lately.” Siri said as she rolled her eyes.
“I am sure it wasn’t that bad. Plus, she is hot.” Sue said and Sam just shook her head at her bestfriends antics because her friend had come out as bi the year before, so now she was letting everyone know who she was into.
“I will have to agree with you there.” Patrick said from the front seat and then he looked over at Sasha who smiled back at him.
“Looking to add another girl to your group, big brother?” Sue asked.
“Nope. I have enough to deal with as it is.” Patrick said with a smirk.
“Hey, take that back.” Sasha said as she smacked him on the arm.
“You know Patrick, maybe you could bring Sam into your group of girls once she turns 18. She needs to get laid badly.” Siri said as she looked past Sam to where Sue was nodded to her statement.
“Seriously. How did I even get into this conversation?” Sam asked.
“We are just trying to look out for you, bestie.” Sue said as she put her arm around her best friend’s shoulders.
“Yeah, I really feel the love. It is more like you just want to pick on me.” Sam said.
“Well, you do make it easy.” Siri said.
“Siri enough. Leave her alone.” Sasha said.
“You too, Sue.” Patrick said to his sister.
“Fine.” they both said as they sat back in their seats and waited silently until they pulled into the school parking lot.
“We are here. Everyone have a nice day and we will meet back out here after school and practices.” Patrick said and everyone nodded as they got out of the truck and said their goodbyes as they entered the school.
“You know, I do feel bad for your sister having to deal with those two all the time.” Patrick said.
“I know, but she is the only one that can keep your sister straight and my sister is pretty much impossible.” Sasha said.
“She isn’t that bad.” Patrick said.
“Well, I don’t think that Sue is that bad either.” Sasha said.
“She isn’t. I love her to ****. I just wish she would try to stay out of trouble.” Patrick said.
“I love Siri too, but she knows how to get on my last nerve.” Sasha said.
“I guess it is just something to do with younger siblings then. Anyway, we should get to class. We don’t need to be late.” Patrick said as he gave Sasha a quick kiss and then the two of them split up so they were going to get to their homerooms and start their senior year of high school.
