Chapter 32 by SilverSpectre006 SilverSpectre006

Little did I know...

The Debutante Ball

He offered to drive, which was to be expected I guess since he invited me to tag along. Though through most of the drive I found myself staring out the window watching the numerous city lights pass by and the occasional couple or family having a walk out or something. This was how I became most familiar with the city, it was crowded by day but the abundant of neon night lights which mark the downtown area made it feel like a playground to a night owl like myself. Something was off in me though, I couldn't explain it. It wasn't the break up that left me sour, just what Steve said to me that hit.

"You don't get it do you?"

"What is there to get, I kissed your sister and I'm sorry. I was drinking a-and we were just sitting down because the **** was getting to me-"

"You know my sister is lesbian?"

That one caught me by surprise, I mean aside from us kissing just... "Okay what does that have to do with it?"

"She was also sober. She doesn't drink **** Helen, and I saw you pulling her by hand when you two left. I'm not mad that you kissed her really, I'm just annoyed at how you react to yourself."

"What-what am I supposed to say to that?" Seriously, was he pissed off that I nearly fucked his sister or not?

"Helen, just think about it. You've always been more of a tomboy at heart, you just don't dress up as one. It's fine if you like girls instead, honestly I had seen the signs for a while now. Just, geez you are so stubborn when it comes to admitting things."

Yea, we were in his Prius on the drive back home, he was taking me to my place instead with the idea behind it being that we were breaking up. We didn't say the magic words, but it was strongly implied that a line had been crossed. There's no coming back from being found in bed kissing a woman's soft, warm chest with the two of you topless by then. Not the best way to catch your girlfriend, well soon to be ex.

"Helen, I'm fine with how things are-"

"Seriously, you are too relaxed for what just happened. I was thinking you'd be pissed."

"Me too, but I'm relieved really. Which isn't a good sign about us if you ask me."

I sighed, I guess somewhere down the line we faded back to square one of just being cool friends. "Was I an awful girl to date."

"No, you were amazing but it always felt like we were best friends first and a couple second."

The car stopped before he parked. I moved up and undid my seat belt, still feeling the awful stench of beer on my breath. Gross.

"You were a good boyfriend too, you know? I'm sorry I screwed things up."

"No, you're good. It hurt, but really a lot of people have been catching on and telling us that."

Then came in the words that stuck to me like glue.

"You just love women the same way guys do. Maybe you should open up that, because it's clear you're holding yourself back."

Holding myself back, what did he mean holding myself back? I like guys all the same, and I love women like-like guys love guys! What was it with people telling me off about myself, as if they know me better than I know me? It's annoying.

The view had stopped as several cars popped up to my right, it took me a second before realizing we were in a parking lot.

"Alright, we're here." Shoot, I almost forgot where I was. I need to keep my head out of the clouds.

Bennet walked over and opened the door for me, reaching his hand out for me to grab. Again, quite the gentleman. Being courteous, I played along and held his arm as we approached the hou-fuck me! That's no damn house!

"Jesus." I gasped at the sight of this palace. Where the hell was this gem hiding?

"Easy now, ya know my parents 'r religious." Bennet smiled, keeping up the pace forward. "Thanks again for goin' wit me, Helen. 'S gunna be a lot a' people 'n 'ere, so try 'n be nice heh."

"What kind of ball is this again?"

"Oh a debutante ball. Oh, here's my pops." He said as they approached the steps up to the large front doors. Several men in nice looking suits were outside, drinking or smoking and having a chat. One guy, tall with broad shoulders and a hoarse voice turned his head before greeting Bennet with wide arms catching him in a bear hug. I sort of shifted in my dress, fumbling with my hands a bit as the two conversed for some time.

"Oh uh pops, this 'ere is Helen. We go to class together, Helen this is-"

"Crawford, it is a pleasure to meet you ma'am. My boy is a lucky man to have you in his company." He reached for my hand and brought it to his lips for a kiss.

"Oh," I was blushing, probably out of embarrassment from the kiss and the misunderstanding. "I-Is a pleasure to meet you too, but uh I'm-"

"Probably appalled to be kept out here waiting, my apologies miss where are my manners? Right this way 'ere." He pushed through me and opened up the left door for the both of us to step in. "Bennet, why don't you introduce your girl to the rest of the party and have some fun? I'll be out here with the boys if ya'll need to find me."

"Thanks pa." Bennet nodded before stepping forward, grabbing my hand and pulling me in with him.

I'm not quite sure what I had got myself into, but I was having regrets!

Oh boy...
