The Confrontation

Chapter 4 by Peter_ENF

It was already past midnight when Claudia got home. The video was still online. After more than four hours, it still had several hundred thousand views and was being shared in various groups and chats. It wasn’t until around half past twelve that it was finally taken down from the platform following a massive number of reports.

Claudia was no longer just humiliated. She was beside herself.

She found Julia in the large kitchen. Julia was standing by the refrigerator, drinking straight from a water bottle and scrolling through her phone. When she heard Claudia come in, she looked up briefly—and froze for a moment when she saw the look on her stepmother’s face.

Claudia had changed her clothes; she was now wearing a dark silk blouse and tight pants. Her eyes were bloodshot, and her makeup was partially smudged. She was still pale around the nose, but at the same time, her cheeks were flushed with suppressed anger.

“You saw it,” Claudia said quietly. Her voice trembled with suppressed anger.

Julia set down the water bottle and leaned against the kitchen island. She shrugged.

“Yeah. I did. That really went to shit.”

Claudia stood in the doorway. She stared at Julia as if she were seeing her properly for the first time.

“Went to shit?” she repeated slowly. “That video was online for over four hours. Four hours. During which everyone saw my breast pop out. Saw me standing there like a cheap hooker. And you… you just kept filming. Kept laughing. Kept talking as if nothing had happened.”

Julia rolled her eyes.

“I didn’t notice anything, Claudia. I was talking into the camera up front. I didn’t know that you were back there… doing that.”

“Doing that?” Claudia hissed. “I didn’t expose myself on purpose! The strap slipped! And you filmed the whole thing and uploaded it without even checking once to see what was happening in the background.”

Julia crossed her arms over her chest. Her demeanor immediately turned defiant.

“And what am I supposed to do now? Apologize to you because you were wearing a dress that doesn’t even fit right? That was an accident. An embarrassing accident. But not my fault.”

Claudia took a step closer. Her voice grew dangerously calm.

“You left the video online for four hours. You didn’t even report it yourself. I had to call people to get it taken down. In the meantime, board members have already seen it. People are already sending me messages. They’re laughing at me.”

Julia lifted her chin. Something in her gaze hardened.

“Maybe you should have been more careful about what you wear if you know you’re being filmed. I’m not your babysitter. I’m not responsible for the fact that you’ve lost control of yourself.”

The sentence hit Claudia like a blow.

For a moment, silence reigned in the kitchen. Only the soft hum of the refrigerator could be heard.

Claudia stared at Julia. And in that moment, something happened. The humiliation, the shame, the anger—it all mixed with something else. Something darker. She saw Julia standing there. How she refused to back down even a millimeter. How she had that little, stubborn twitch around her mouth that Claudia had known for years.

And suddenly it dawned on Claudia that Julia wasn’t just innocent. She wasn’t really affected either. Not really.

“You’re enjoying this,” Claudia said quietly. Almost tonelessly.

Julia smiled. A small, cold smile.

“I’m not enjoying anything. But I’m not going to apologize for the fact that you had bad luck. That was a coincidence. Nothing more.”

Claudia nodded slowly. Once. Then again.

“Fine,” she said finally. “Then from now on, it’ll also be a coincidence if I make your life a living hell.”

She turned around and left the kitchen without another word.

Julia was left alone. Her heart was beating faster than she wanted to admit. She hadn’t intended to react that way. But when Claudia stood there and looked at her like that—full of shame and anger—something inside her refused to back down.

She’d been stubborn.

And now something had been set in motion.

Something that could no longer be stopped.

The war had begun.

Because of a single, accidental nipple slip.

And because of Julia’s refusal to apologize even a millimeter.
