The City

Lauren was not going to step one foot into that forest! She could get sprayed by a skunk, eaten by a mountain lion, kidnapped by a Bigfoot, or who knows what else! It may have been more risky, but she was taking her chances with the city.

And so, Lauren marched onward. She made sure to hide behind bushes when the occasional car or truck drove by. Looking up at the sun, Lauren could tell that it was in the middle of the sky; and if she remembered what limited Girl Scout training she had, that meant that it was at least mid-afternoon. She had plenty of time to make it home before Vanessa got back.

Two hours later…

Lauren felt exhausted! Her legs were starting to feel like jelly as she wobbled around, still walking to her destination. Her feet felt like she was walking on saw blades; she was pretty sure that she had gotten blisters on her feet, and had blisters forming on those blisters. She was panting heavily, taking deep breaths; her lungs working over time and her heart beating 30 miles a second. She swore that once she got her life back to normal, she would go to the gym everyday for the rest of her life!

But worst of all was the sweat. As the sun was beating down on her, Lauren was sweating buckets – no, she was sweating oceans! Sweat rolled down her skin, making her feel clammy and gross. And then there was the sweat that was pooling in her diaper; the cursed garment that was practically roasting her lower half in this instance heat. I’ll be shocked if I don’t end up with a diaper rash soon. Lauren thought, blushing at the idea of her getting a diaper rash.

Lauren was just about to throw in the towel and just start hitchhiking when she looked up. She was standing in front of a sign. A sign that was telling her that her home town was nine miles away…

But a gas station and truck stop was only one mile away.

If Lauren’s muscles weren’t on fire she would have jumped for joy. Yeah, she had only gone one mile in two hours; but all she had to do now was just walk a little bit more to this truck stop and she’d be able to rest. She would be able to get some water. She’d be able to get a shower, clothes, and maybe even a ride to town; or even a ride to her apartment!

Just have to go one more mile! Come on, Lauren, you got this! Lauren thought to herself, mentally cheering herself on as she continued walking again.

Two more hours later…

Just…about…there… Lauren thought to herself, panting heavily. She fell to her knees, her legs to sore to stand anymore. She desperately tried to catch her breath, feeling over heated at this point.

“Oh, what’s the point?!” Lauren asked no one in particular as she pounded the grass with her fist. “I’m so exhausted that I can’t even move anymore! Just let the vultures get to me!”

Lauren looked up and saw that, ironically, she had just given up about forty feet from the truck stop.

Yes! Things are coming up Lauren! Lauren thought to herself excitedly. Struggling, she managed to get up and walk slowly towards the truck stop.
