The Beginning

[Here we go at last. I decided to start slowly.]

"Finally! Gods, that puzzle was hard!" Cassandra said to no one in particular (since she was the only person there). "Now let's see what's in that chest and if it was worth wasting my time with it..."

Slowly she approached the wooden chest and reached for its lid...

…and then Cassandra woke up.

"What the-" Still not fully awake, the young woman needed a few moments to figure out where she was. "Oh. Right. I'm home and this is my room... Dammit! I was having such a nice dream! Why did I have to wake up now, right before the best part?" She sighed in annoyance, but there was nothing she could do.

Well, might as well get up and do something. I'm not sure what time it is, but it's probably around sunrise, or a little after it. But what should I do? Let's see... She switched to thinking aloud. "Dad won't be back for at least another week because he's busy making new contracts." And visiting some of his mistresses, no doubt. "Margaret said she'll be staying at the Academy to do some research. I doubt she has changed her mind about it, so she should still be there. Mom should be in the master bedroom, while Valeria and Alice should be in their own rooms. That's about everyone at home. Of course, I can always go into the city. Maybe I should visit Evelyn. Or Lisa. Or Catherine. Or maybe I should check out the Market, see what's new... Or some other place – plenty of interesting things to see in Syrada..."
