Shepard shuttled down to the Batarian camp with Ashley at her side as they ran in. Shepard hoped they weren’t too late. “Where’s Jack?!” Shepard yelled as she pointed her gun at a Batarian. “Tell me now or-”
“Shepard! Stand down! Jack is safe,” a batarian yelled as he came running.
Shepard turned and recognized Balak as the Batarian terrorist she had let go to save some hostages and also used during the Reaper War. “Where is she, Balak?”
“She’s in our medical camp,” Balak said. “We recognized her as one of yours from the war. So after your impostor dropped her off to trade, we put her in the medical camp immediately. Her condition was critical, but we were able to stabilize her condition.”
Shepard processed the information and nodded. “Thank you… but… you said you knew about the impostor? What did you do?”
“Simple, we killed her and the other one she was with,” Balak said. “We know she wasn’t you. She couldn’t answer any of our questions correctly and the very idea of trading one of your own is… uncharacteristic of you. We didn’t trust it at all.”
Shepard nodded. “Then I owe you,” Shepard said.
Balak shook his head. “No. You don’t. This makes us even.”
Shepard nodded. “Now where’s Jack?”
“Over here,” Balak said as he led Shepard to the medical camp where Jack was laying with her eyes shut. “She’s resting. But I’m sure she’ll wake for you.”
Shepard nodded as she sat down next to Jack and took hold of her hand. As she did, Jack stirred awake. “Shepard…”
