The Backpack Held the Answer

You hang out with Kin again three more times over the next week and a half. During which time you try to bring up the entire topic of her father and her other career on a few (well more then a few) occasions. For some reason it doesn't seem to work. Privately, you have doubts that she happened to rediscover her love of beagles out of the blue right as you began talking about her father.

She doesn't seem eager to not hang out with you though. She's always the first one to text asking to hang out. Regardless of the lack of backstory, you can't help but enjoy it though. The time she napped on your leg was the most interesting. It was difficult to maintain your composure with her hair drooping down your leg in waves. Every time you to hang out she begins by reminding you it's not a date, which would be less confusing if she wasn't flirting with you constantly.

On Saturday you ask her to hang out the next day, but she says she's out of town on Sundays.

You decide this is the ideal time to check out her workplace. You assume she works at the kennel from the card, or at the very least that she has some kind of connection to it. Maybe they have answers. But, going through that rabbit hole only makes the entire situation even more confusing.

Akechi Puppy Kennels has a website. More specifically, Akechi Puppy Kennels has a website that is entirely in Japanese. This wouldn't be quite the head scratcher if the place didn't have an dress that listed it in town. Or if the website wasn't filled with some of the most affluent people you'd ever seen. Some of these people were unknown business people in very nice suits, mostly asian men, but there were a few people you definitely recognize.

"Is that the mayor?" You ask in doubt, while looking at a picture of a man who was, without a doubt, the mayor.

That still wasn't the weirdest part of the website The weirdest part is that there wasn't a single picture of a dog on the entire site. There were a few of cages and doggy gear, but not a single picture of a dog.

You see a phone number on the corner of one of the pages and make a call. You decide that a trip to the part of town where the obscenely wealthy live wouldn't make for a bad Sunday afternoon.
