Chapter 2
by Nemo of Utopia
Which character would you like to be?
The Assassin (Female: Long Black Hair, Tan Skin, Dark Eyes: Bisexual.)
{if Start Game = True} The group observing gasped a little as with a final deafening peal of thunder the coin spiraled to a stop on the countertop...
Three Skulls on one side and the double eagle of The Empire on the other, these dainty hands in their black silk blouse with the silver skull buttons were those of an assassin of the God-Emperor's most holy Officio Assassinoritum: the office of assassins.
The assassins were recruited before the age of four from the slums and prison camps of the empire and trained to be utterly ruthless traveling problem solvers for the God-Emperor's Government. When there was an issue such as this that it was felt the Inquisition was too much of a sledgehammer to deal with it effectively, one or more assassins would be dispatched. On the rare occasions they walked openly, one could be sure that there were already others in place in secret, the 'Palm Agent' and the 'Dagger Agents', and everyone eyed everyone in the room who had arrived in the area more recently than having been born here. Is (he or she) a Dagger Agent?
was the thought on all the 100% locals minds about anyone not born to the region, as well as that of most of those who had moved into the area for marriage or business, for though they could be relatively sure of themselves, they had to wonder about everyone else who had come from afar as an adult, for the Officio's sleeper agents were known to remain in place for problems such as this sometimes for generations, thus even locals were not entirely above suspicion...
The barkeep accepted the deaths-head-lunar, as was both law and custom, for, among other things, accepting it meant you were not the assassin's target. "That's five silver-head to your tab miss, what'll you be having?" He intoned the traditional thanks, and the woman pulled back her hood.
She was glorious, long, lustrous, black hair with a pronounced wave to it tied together with a series of leather thongs, deeply tanned skin the color of good ale, gently pointed ears betraying her as having fae ancestry with earrings hanging from their lobes made of gold fishhooks with dangling chains of white skull beads carved from ivory, but her eyes: her eyes were so dark a brown that one could not readily distinguish between iris and pupil, and one could lose oneself in their ebony depths for hours, days, or even months! She was captivating, like the stare of a cobra, everyone knew she could have killed them all before she even put down the coin, it was written in her every line.
"I have heard this inn is renowned for its birch beer and roast mutton with herbs and root vegetable stew served in a hollowed loaf of bread. I will have them, and if they cost more than five silver as they are not in season we can dicker over price AFTER you tell the cook," she said while surveying the room carefully.
The Assasin's name was Alex Sexton and she was here on a mission. The government of Zorzerican Imperium had of course been aware of the curse that had befallen The Counts Barsotti for quite some time, and been researching a way to end it, which they had found, buuut, it would, of course, not be easy...
