Chapter 8

How do the guard's women react to you executing The General?

The Armies Elected Him Caesar...

About half of the guard's women in the crowd level their guns at you and for a moment you fear that you are about to become a martyr to the cause of liberty, but then somehow the thought that without you the as a figurehead the colony will probably fall into chaos seems to flit through their heads, plus the realization that the other half have leveled THEIR guns at the first half, and they snap their guns up into a two handed grip and depress the trigger for a single shot.

"HAIL! The Young Lion is returned and has killed the Old Lion: long may he reign!"

Both halves shout as one, and one calls in on her relic tech police radio to start playing a specific file over the colony wide broadcast system, whereupon an MP3 from a very old movie, the 'Panem National Anthem' resounds over the speakers erected at the center of every village: a song which normally only plays on the anniversary of The General taking power, a day which this most certainly is not.

In the hours that follow you enter the village and are escorted to The General's old quarters, while all of his laundry is taken out and burned along with his body as part of the funeral pyre. Since 'The Rise' your dead are no longer buried but always cremated, and The General is no exception.

You meet your mother and sisters again for the first time since you were sent on The Ordeal, Your mother survived her whipping but is still weak from the blood loss and crippled by the scars, and you privately curse the man you have just slain for doing that to her.

Hours later, emotionally exhausted beyond all you thought you could ever know, you collapse into the freshly made bed, and fall asleep: Tomorrow you begin your life as the leader of the colony: tonight, you sleep the sleep of the righteous dead.

How Does the Next Day Start?
