Typical Appearance:

Angona individuals can differ in appearance thanks to general height (or length since they float) and colorization. Angonae, the plural, can come into a variety of colors ranging from blue to green to red to pink to purple. It is unknown as to why Angonae come in this different colors, but some theorize it might be because of certain bacteria that they ingest giving them different coloring. However, they also have some means of bioluminescence that seem to change color based on an Angona's mood.

Otherwise, Angonae have a lot of the same features. Essentially, they look like manta rays with a jellyfish flair. They are transparent and you can gaze at their internal organs and nervous systems thanks to this. Some note this to be a strange, ethereal tone to meeting an Angona for the first time. With their small, almost invisible eyes being at the top and center of their body, and a wide thin mouth.

When floating and interacting with other species, they keep themselves at an angle between forty-five and fifty degrees. This allows their faces to be exposed for ease of communication as well to give equal range of movements for their collection of tentacles that dangle from their bodies, and these tentacles all perform certain tasks. The one's immediately at the edges of their bodies are for protection, having barbs that inject aggressors with a stinging poison that other Angorae or immune to, then there are sensory tentacles to allow them to "smell" the air, then there are the tentacles for grabbing or manipulating the environment around them, and finally there is the tentacles that allow for procreation by injecting semen at will into the vaginas of other beings.

Culture:

Completely centralized around the pursuits of science in all aspects. The only interest an Angona is to further their understanding in some knowledgeable field of science...including mathematics, engineering, physics, biology, medicine, robotics, and so on. They lack the physical presence and thus their mind is their only integral part to their existence. It is because of this they able to stay a consistent threat to the other two races who make up the founders of the UGC.

Finding time away from warfare and having peace, the Angona find that this is a preferable state to conduct their research. Thus, they wish to keep it that way with both non-UGC races and non-board member races. Some even criticize that they bend over backwards or pander to the other races.

They also name their planets and ships based on their purposes. Locations needed for residential housing are called Genesis, locations for military are called Bastion, locations for resource gathering and then manufacturing are called Foundry, locations for commerce are called Garden, and locations for scientific advancement are called Salvation. All first locations are suffixed with 0, with future installations counting upwards.

Government Type:

The government of today has been in the formation since discovering sentient life of other races. As it stands, it is a very autocratic, or one individual holding all the power. They have no smaller scaled governmental structures and only differ to the autocrat since they are the link between their own species and the UGC. But even then, not much weight is put into the authority of the autocrat, as they only offer a communication line to the galactic government and set up regulations to ensure their people adhere to galactic law. The Autocrat is selected from birth among the legions birthed after their mating ritual at random and then they are raised to their position where they rule for life.

Beliefs:

They do not worship a being, or a creature, or even a thing. More, they come to worship the representation of an idea...of an event. They come to believe that, given enough dedication to the fields of research, and obtain the right knowledge...they can reach genetic perfection. The Perfect Strain is an elusive and dedicately sought after concept that many search either from biology or robotics, finding that it is quite possible the strain could be a sort of cybernetic enhancement rather than biological. Whatever the case, they are in the search for the perfect life and find that it is their duty to convert all living things into this singular race of perfect beings.

Military:

Their military is rather defensive with a reliance on energy weapons and operations. Very little rely on physical munitions or fuel. In the earlier days, the Angonae themselves had to serve in the military as they fought off hostile aliens. But now most attack and defend protocols are automated by sophisticated AI. This pretty much means that engineers who specialize in weapons, defenses, robotics, and programming lead the military forces. Though, with the UGC now being active, their military forces are now more like a intergalactic police **** that keeps territories protected. Of course, everything is still ran by the Autocrat.

Internal Economy:

Had no concept of economics beforehand, but has adjusted to using the UGC Cd.

Aesthetics:

Not much aesthetics is planned with the Angonae, as they view practicality above such things. However, everything the Angona race makes is built from the center on out. This results in ships that are build in connected spheres, with the outer spheres being combat modules that can receive and send out ships. Meanwhile the insides are for logistics, key life support, and residential essential spheres. They have drones that go out and do stuff for them, so most ships are multi-purpose. Even their freighters are multi-sphered so they can not only ship products, but even make products right there in the freighter itself.

Not many creatures can be within an Angonite ship, or Angonite building for that matter, for they need to compensate for their near constant need to feed. Since they can't always have decomposing materials to feast on hand, then they must be sustained with bacteria to filter feed. So, it is common practice for most facilities to house bacteria farms that are then put into vents so a controlled population of bacteria is spread throughout ships and buildings. This allows them to feed as they float from destination to destination.

It is also common practice for ships and buildings to have rooms where the bacteria cannot enter, having an airborne sterilization agents that kills the bacteria if they try to encroach the space. This allows for meeting with aliens, doing diplomacy, conduct research in a sterile environment, or tend to patience in a hospital.

Relation to UGC:

They are a founding member and a part of the UGC board. They were also the first to suggest the possibility of additions to the board, thus spreading the rumors of possible races to be included.

Views of others:

Before the formation of the UGC, they cared not for other life...seeing them more as test subjects to work upon. But now they see other life more as children that must be guided, and do work to appease others in order to keep a sustainable existence without worry of warfare to continue their own activities. With the right convincing choice of dialogue, and compassionate actions...anyone would gladly donate themselves to scientific experimentations.

Stereotypes:

Sociopathic jellyfish that look like a mockery of angelic likeness who put too much lot into scientific pursuits and not enough in learning how to be morally upright. However, Angonae do keep an air of professionalism when working in medicine, service engineering, and do seem to be one of the more compassionate members of the UGC board, though their reasoning are never for morality but simple pro/con arguments.

Relationships:

They do not engage in any sort of relationship that involves romanticism or sexuality. However, their mating ceremony is timed with the mating seasons of the Lakrish they are used to prey upon. This mating seasons occurs when the current generation is about 58 years old. When this occurs, the current generation prepare to die and take up the next as apprentices to learn their field of study and take over their place in society.

But while they find mating to be a thing of practicality, some do engage in relationships with other alien species to satisfy curiosities. They can use their reproductive tentacles on one or more partners for a great amount of sexual satisfaction. An individual that finds themselves in a relationship of an Angona should expect to not receive much in affection, but can find stability or a much needed voice of reason. And don't get upset when it is mating season time.

History:

How the species that the Angonae derive originated is a strange and unanswered question. They are very much different from the migrating Lakrish as well as different from the bacteria that populate the space around their home gas giant. It is theorized that they originated from another planet and were carried over by the Lakrish. And then the different subspecies of their kind came from lucky mutations implemented from selective breeding and natural selection. It helps for the Lakrish have become a dedicated feeding supply for the species, however those that did not take up the manta ray like body form end up being eaten by the Lakrish preparing to breed, lay their eggs in the asteroids, and die. Those that took up the manta ray like shape get confused for baby Lakrish themselves and thus the Lakrish even escort them to the breeding and laying locations.

Once reaching sentience, there were a lot of complications that the Angonae had to overcome. They had very limited coolant choices, few metals, no variety in fuel sources, and several sources of electrical interference. Thus began the seeding of science enthusiasts for the flying space jellyfish people, though they didn't need much convincing for typical ethics or complex thoughts of empathy do not exist; giving them little else to find focus in. However, while most species would find that their first piece of technology would be better weapons, the Angonae first focused on better means to extracting materials and constructing space stations to better conduct their scientific experiments.

Since they lived in an isolated system and don't have any predators to worry about, the Angonae were left to perfect their crafts at their own leisure. This allowed them to better understand their research and technology, but advancements came more slowly because of this. The focus on residential and life enhancing technology allowed them to construct the space station that most Angonae would call home above Genesis 0, that was dubbed the "The Beginning of All". Though, special insulation had to be manufactured so it could withstand the electrical interference from the planet and the space around the system. However, due to them having the luxury of leisure, it allowed them to building from the center and on out which dictated the building structure of all their constructions.

When they started to run low on natural resources at their homeworld, they constructed ships. And with these ships, they went around their solar system and found more resource rich asteroid fields and one solid planet. Upon reaching the solid planet, their production increased indefinitely and they were able to create more complex designs of space craft with better resources. However, the lack of faster than light (FTL) travel was a problem for the Angonae, and one they did not appreciate. Sure, their current system was faster than just floating themselves from planet to planet, but it still took quite awhile to get from point A to point B. And thus, began the first steps towards the tech now commonly referred to as "Hyperlanes".

The first hyperlane stations were very small, completely unable to fit even the smallest of ships through. They instead only sent probes and shipping containers through them, for messages and material shipment. It was all they could get away with, considering the lack of resources for grander projects. And it was thanks to this lack of resources, several Angonae scientists suggested to dare the outside space and leave their system to find more resources for their projects. And it was this decision that would lead them down the path towards their current position as one of the three heads of the largest and most successful galactic government to date.

They came last into the war, since the other two board members were already at each other's throats. The Angonite contribution to the war effort started off because of an accident, being hit by the crossfire destroying several of their initial scouting vessels. The survivors returned home where they talked about the two sides and how they slaughtered their fellow explorers, not knowing if it was intentional or accidental. Sensing that their well beings were now in danger thanks to strange aliens, the had declared their first ever war on them and began developing their first ever weapons.

Their first weapons were the same as everything else, energy based and not physical munitions. This allowed them to develop EMP launchers, shield penetrators, pulse guns, beam emitters that sliced through metal, and variety of other things. They also retrofitted some of their shields to defend against asteroids and space debris to handle faster and harder hitting objects like missiles or shells, as well as their anti-electric storm insulators to better prepare for EMP weapons.

Thanks to their homesystem being naturally defended by anti-electrical fields, they were able to hold up and use the two enemies to test their war efforts and develop their technology. Being naturally inclined towards the fields of science and technology, they were able to quickly progress with a pressuring **** to convince them to hurry up. First started off as a defensive player with only one system for a territory, they soon began to be able to spread their territories and fend off the other warring species, using their defensive specialties to keep their territories.

After a time, the enemies had finally adjusted to their strategies and their technological advancements had started to slow as it was becoming harder to find ways to improve. Thanks to this, a stalemate was starting to grow between the three warring species and it did not appear this would change. But then...it happened, The Crisis Event.

After the Crisis Event was dealt with, the three warring factions had then to overlook transgressions that occurred generations ago and instead looked forward to the future. They signed the Concord and formed the United Galactic Concordant, becoming allies to spread their influence further out into the galaxy, finding other space faring species to include, sharing resources, and aid in great projects with shared manpower and wealth, in the form of the UGC Credit. Thanks to Angona contributions in engineering and science, the designs of the Aegis Star space station were made so the UGC would have a central base of operations, and bigger and more efficient hyperlane stations were made, as well as the first few hyperlane hubs to allow hyperlane stations are able to be properly developed, hosting a means for the galaxy itself to connect together like never before.

Environment Type: It is a gas giant, no land mass and covered in a dense atmosphere containing mostly hydrogen. It is surrounded by rings filled with metal and water rich asteroids.
Climate Type: Never ending storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and electric storms on the surface that sometimes breach the atmosphere.

Location:

Genesis 0 is held deep in the north-west quadrant of the galaxy, protected at all sides by UGC space. There is also an oddity within its solar system of high amounts of space gas that interferes with electronics, making travel in this system tricky. A specially shielded hyperlane station was constructed to allow travel.

Important Landmarks:

Since there is no land, not much to see on the "surface" of the planet asides from the neverending storms that sometimes surge into the atmosphere. However, above the atmosphere and in orbit are several large space stations that the Angonae have constructed to call home, as well as dry docks, shipyards, research centers, bacteria farms, and of course mining operations in the rings.

Indigenous Wildlife:

There is no plant life on the gas giant, but there is some concentration of animal life. This is because of a large creature that migrates through space, called the Lakrish (basically a manta ray the size of an inter-galactic freighter that filter feeds). The Lakrish have a habit of going to gas giants and begin their birth cycles. They would hatch from asteroid fields, feed on bacteria around the gas giant, and then migrate to other gas giants that hold more varied food sources to nurture them. But they always come back to Genesis 0 to lay their eggs and consequently die after the laying.

As they travel, they pick up various life forms from other planets and bring them to the gas giants they visit. However, it is Genesis 0 that has bacterial and then animal life thanks to their birth cycle. The decomposing bodies of the dead migraters allow the life around Genesis 0 to thrive.

Outside of the Lakrish, the majority of life around Genesis 0 are microscopic bacteria. There is very few species that are not microscopic with the Angona being the largest. Funnily enough, these larger creatures all seem to be less successful variants of Angona in different shapes. There are no predators that actively hunt for food.
