Follow the Silver eyed fox or bear?
The "Russian" Bear
"People were wondering about you" the melodic voice of the Captain started, "So tell me a bit about you, since we will be working quite closely together." Even if I didn't think I was missing it so far, I was really looking forward taking orders from this woman. There was something arousing with having such an attractive superior officer. "What do you wish to know?" I asked the woman with the full lips. "First of all, and I know it's a touchy subject, but how? How are you walking with me as if nothing ever happened to you?" She asked, only to turn a bit white, "I mean... It won't keep you from doing your job? sorry for going in such a roundabound way at first, and for asking so bluntly now, it's just important for me to know." she finished. It troubled her she had to ask it that way, and I won't fault her, it's not an easy subject to approach. But as I usually say, feelings be damned, let's focus on the problems.
"No, it isn't a problem, as I told the Commissioner, those are really high-quality prosthetics. I can use my legs as well as I did before, if not better." It was always better to get it out of the way, "And how about you, ma'am? how is it to be a woman officer, and in charge of one of the finest units in crimefighting?" It's not because I think women can't do the job, in fact it had nothing with her being a woman or what she does, it was a test for her, so I would have a better idea who am I dealing with. "Oh, I see, a retaliation. Nicely done, yes I deserved that." and I smiled, she knows what she is doing.
"Fine, then I have another question, how come you were talking to Bruce, it seemed pretty random. What are you doing here anyway?" She shot. As I decided I was in good hands, and I believed in being honest, I told her everything. She laughed at my sister's plan to get free drinks, but said it was smart, ingenious even. I agreed and told her about my sister's pranks from childhood, omitting some details of course. She listened attentively, I knew she was using it to judge my character, so I provided. Later I told her about the army, about how I was amazed to find out just how humble and brilliant some of the villagers we met were. And also she listened to every word I had to say about the last battle. She told me how the unit's sergeant was actually a medic in the counter attack, and that she maybe was in the **** that found me.
Afterwards, as the sun was coming down, we came back towards the event grounds, apparently we missed the speech. Sonia had me swear that if Bruce asked, she was at the back of the tent listening to the speech. We continued, as we talked about our childhoods a bit. She grew up to a mexican family that moved to Texas, and that she came here because she studied criminology in the university here, so she stayed in Gotham.
"Did your family immigrate here too?" she asked. "No, do you mean because of the Russian surname? No, my great-great grandfather came here about a century ago, he settled in Central city and openned a french restaurant" this prompted a sweet laugh from the hazel eyed woman. "But he was Russian.. why would he open a french restaurant?" she asked, and quite understandably why. "French cuisine was popular in the Russian empire, and you know how entrepreneurs think, he saw an untouched niche and filled it." Last time I checked the restaurant had four and a half stars on review sites. "And your family still owns the restaurant?" she asked smiling, which aroused me a bit. "Well some cousin is the owner now, my branch of the family was more concerned with engineering, my grandfather designed the engines of the Blackbird, well he was one of the engineers."
"So I can't parade you as the Russian Bear of our unit? Shame, it could be a good mascot in competitions. Well it was fun, and I'm sure we'll do just fine working together, or I mean I will enjoy having you work for me." She corrected herself, in a mischievous and playful tone. "Don't count on me being so nice the next time we meet, I'll contact you with what I have planned for you, farewell" she said, turned around and walked away. She wasn't tall, but she clearly had some very nice curves to her. Her heels accentuate her calves, and it took me few seconds to remove my eyes from her swaying behinds. Yes, I do think I will enjoy seeing her again.
As I looked around, I noticed how it was already past sunset. My phone showed me a text from my sister, saying I don't need to wait for her. I wonder where Stephanie had disappeared to, it was stupid of me not to take her number.
Having nothing else to do, I turned home.
Any surprises?
