Chapter 9 by JennCarcione JennCarcione

What do you do with the business card?

Text him

I place his card and my dresser and sleep on it. The next morning, I decide see what his intentions are. I am concerned about giving out my real phone number, so I decide to create a new free phone number through google voice. I text Richard, "Hi Richard this is Jenny from the club last night. I got your business cards last night and I'm curious why." I know it's a pretty straightforward but I'm not looking to start a friendship, more so see what he has in mind.

A minute my phone vibrates. It's a response from Richard, "Good morning precious. Thank you for reaching out to me. My agency is tasked with creating a promotional campaign for a major luxury cruise line. We need a few local beauties for our video. Auditions for the part are this afternoon. If you get the gig, the pay is $300 for a 1 hour shoot. Are you interested?"

This is a no-brainer, I quickly respond, "yes please!"

I receive a text back, "Great. The audition is at 8610 main street, suite 301. Arrive by 2:00pm sharp."

I take a shower, apply my makeup and hair and apply perfume. I decide to let my long hair down today. I wisely choose to put on a tiny white thong and matching bra. The last thing I'd want during this audition is panty lines poking through. I open my closet. After a long time debating my outfit, I decide to wear a red Shein dress. The V top shows enough to let the men know I'm a women, but not too much that I look like a slut. The bottom of the tight dress ends about 2 inches below my butt. As long as it doesn't ride up, I'm good. I put on my favorite 2" red platform stiletto's, grab my red Prada bag and run to my car.

I arrive at 1:58. The receptionist looks at her clock and says, "just made it" as I sticker with my name and the number 43.

There are several dozen women waiting in chairs. All of them have a name and number as well. I presume my number is the highest because I arrived last. One by one, the women are called. They enter the room and a few minutes later, leave. After 90 minutes of waiting, the room is entirely empty except for myself. I'm finally called.

I enter the room to three people. Richard, another older man sitting next to him, and a younger man with a large camera. Richard and the other man begin taking notes as the camera man orders me into various poses. After what seems like 1,000 shots and almost as many poses, the camera man says, done. Anyone else Rich or Tom?

The other man, who I presume is Tom, says, "No thank you Jim. You can pack up and go.

Tom looks at me and says, "Jennifer, hold up moment. We want to talk to you about your shoot."

Jim the camera man packs up and leaves while I wait for the verdict from Tom and Richard. Richard's head is down as Tom speaks, "You are clearly not trained in modeling. You aren't as talented as many of the women here. You have no modeling experience and didn't earn the job." The other 5 girls applying for the "young Asian sister role" are all between 9 and 13 years old, require half your pay and are double as talented.

I feel absolutely humiliated. I don't know if I should run out or cry. Why was I even invited for the audition if I'm clearly not right for the role.

Tom pauses for a moment as he looks me up and down, then continues, "You are a beautiful young lady. I have an idea... If you want this job, we need to find a solution." Tom stands up and begins to approach me. What do I do?

Do I tell him no thank you and leave?
