Texas Is Spotted!

A chill runs down the sheriff's spine when she hears footsteps. One of the mayor's thugs turned the corner, an unlit cigarette on her lip. The heavy-set rhino lit a match and covered it with her hand. The wind nearly blew it out again, but the building along with her hand provided enough cover for her to light up. She quickly shook the match to extinguish it and flicked it away, looking up to see the petrified weasel. The freshly lit cigarette fell from her lip as her eyes widened. Texas didn't wait to see what would happen next and started running. Behind her she could hear the thug bellow.

"TEXAS IS HERE! Georgia! Texas is hidin out in the alleys!"

"WHAT?!" the distinct voice of her former deputy boomed through the town. She was always a loud one, but this time the weasel was positively surprised her volume didn't shatter any windows. No time for curiosity though. Every one of Vivian's goons along with Georgia was after her and none of them were going to treat her with any kindness. She dashed into an alley and through an open window into the hotel. The sheriff excused herself as quickly as she could to the shrieking guests whose rooms she barged through to escape her pursuers. Her lithe frame made popping through the rooms easy and she quickly found herself on the other side of the hotel, leaping out of a window into another alleyway. She ran past several more buildings, slowly getting a headstart on the thugs chasing her.

Heavy footfalls announced the arrival of Georgia in the pursuit. She was leading the charge, chasing after Texas with malicious determination. Her equine nature shone as the large horse woman started to gain on her victim. The loud thumps of each weighty step drawing closer to the terrified sheriff. Straight line speed wasn't going to win this. Texas needed to be cunning. Ahead of her was the back of the prison and sheriff's office. Her gun might still be there. Out front she might also find her horse to escape this nightmare of a town. First things first, she had some pursuers to slip away from. An open window caught her eye and without thinking she bolted through it.

A wave of stench hit the sheriff right in the face as she'd stumbled into the backroom of the wash-house. Tubs full of unwashed laundry were awaiting service and their stink was unbearable. Texas didn't have the luxury to complain as she heard the many footsteps outside of her pursuers. She quickly bolted through several doors to end up on the main street in front of the wash-house. Salvation was near as she could see the sheriff's office, her horse tied up in front of it. She ran for it as fast as her little legs could carry her. Screw going inside and getting her gun, there was no time for that. A panicked look behind her confirmed it as Vivian's thugs poured out from the alleys to give chase.

The sheriff ran towards her escape, hopping up onto the boardwalk so she'd be able to untie her horse's reins on the double. The tiniest smile grew on her face as she saw a glimmer of hope. Hope that her near future did not involve getting flattened by Georgia or the mayor's goons.
