Chapter 24 by SnarkShark

What's next?

Testing his new toys

Connor sat in silence for a minute, trying to accept or reject what his father had said. He automatically ate his way through both their breakfasts, while he was at it.

Finally, he put on the necklace and the ring, put the collar back in its box, and walked out. The receptionist came out from behind her desk.

"Is everything alright? Your father left in a hurry, and told me to cancel his room"

"Yes, its just a, erm, business emergency." The receptionist smiled in relief, and Connor's teenage heart begin to beat faster. She was pretty in a bottle blonde way, immaculately made up, and in a nice suit that showed off her thin waist and slender curves. Suddenly, he realized that she was still smiling at him, expecting something further. "But he said to say breakfast was great, and he'll be staying here the next time he's in town."

"Well, that's nice of him," said the receptionist, "Will you be off now then?" Connor realized she didn't want him to go. Does she... like me? he thought. He had an idea, and reached out to touch her shoulder.

"I'll have to go soon, but I'd still like some more coffee. If you're not busy, would you mind if I kept talking while I drank it?" This was perhaps smoother than Connor had ever managed to be with a girl in his life. The receptionist's smile broadened. Connor tried to calm himself for a moment as Emma ordered him a coffee by the desk's phone. Remember, you have Joan, this is just a test. And anyway, it might all be Dad's mad delusion. I shouldn't trust it.

"Of course! It's a bit quiet now, so I appreciate the company." Connor reached up and played with the necklace chain around his neck, bringing the disc into view. The receptionist glanced down, then her gaze stuck on it.

"Emma, wasn't it? Sorry to hear you're lonely." A hit thought Connor - he was somehow aware that Emma was not just single, but unhappy about it. Flirting with male guests was no substitute for actually having a man.

"Oh, it's nothing," the young receptionist said, but Connor was aware her smile became a little more fixed. He took a step closer, still holding the pendant up for her to look at. "That's a nice necklace, by the way."

"Thank you, my father's gift." Connor slipped it from his neck and held it up for Emma's inspection. She seemed mesmerized, and Connor had to admit there was more than coincidence at work. Also, his heart was pounding like he had run a mile; he was pretty sure that it was a sign of his powers at work. He tried to think of something he could ask Emma to do to test his powers. Something that she'd normally refuse, but nothing mean or cheating on Joan. He couldn't resist taking a look down Emma's blouse now he was closer. She was so petite that even Connor could look down. Not that there was much to see, she seemed fairly smallbreasted. The pendant she was wearing dangled between her bra cups. "What's on yours?"

Emma started to reach for her necklace chain when Connor continued;

"No, just open your shirt."

Does it work?
