Chapter 32 by Almax Almax

What do you say?

Tell her the truth

"Haha, yeah actually." You laugh, reaching a hand to the back of your head. "I'm, ah- I'm in there. Hahaha."

Lexi freezes up, and looks you up and down. Her eyes have gone all big. "Say again?"

"Haha, yeah....." You smile, rubbing the back of your head still. "I, uh, joined them last week. Hahaha. It's actually sort of funny, I think."

Lexi pauses, putting on a thinking face, and looks you up and down. "Do you... okay, wow, didn't expect that. Do you know much about them? Are you.... in agreement with them, if you do?"

"I mainly just wanted to have extra friends." You say. Since you're already telling her the truth, you decide that a little bit more can't hurt. "Some of them are really nice! Most of them, even. It could possibly be all of them that are nice."

Lexi lifts a finger to her lips, and leans back against the vent again to contemplate. "....hm. Well, that makes stuff.... okay, no, this is workable." She sits upright again, taking a kneeling position, and leans forward towards you. "Alright, how about I tell you what I know about them, and then we go from there? Does that sound alright?"

You nod.

"Peachy!" Lexi says, looking to have fully recovered from her surprise. "Okay, wow. Wow. So, where to begin? In fact -- here, crawl with me, we'll walk and talk."

Lexi gets onto her hands and knees again, and gets back to shuffling through the vents. You do the same, following close behind, and listen to her as she tells you what she thinks she knows about the Argent Sorority.

"So, pretty much everybody who knows that the Sorority exists and isn't a member is either being hunted down by them or working to get rid of them. Or both of those." She says, from behind the wiggling tushie in front of you. "The members don't take any classes, but they're still at the university, and have been for a long time. I'm pretty sure it basically works on recruiting members that go full-time after graduating, or just drop their classes entirely, but there are some crazies who think they're always the same people and just don't age. Which, to be fair, distinct possibility. You know anything about that, before I go on?"

She looks back over her shoulder at you. You shrug. You're pretty sure they're not immortal though, since you're pretty sure immortal people wouldn't.... react to things in the way they do. You know. Explosively gushing seems to be their M.O., to a certain extent.

"Right. Well, I don't think that's what's happening anyway." She says, going back to looking forward through the vents again. "But the Sorority basically functions to.... corrupt peeps. Outside of their group, the ones inside are pretty much already there. It's why most Warriors out in the real world are basically untrained sex addicts that wear armour and get paid for standing around. The Sorority gets to just about everyone before they can graduate."

It sounds like a topic of real importance to Lexi, so you're happy to keep listening, but it definitely seems like she's being a bit harsh. Not just to your new friends in the Argent Sorority, who might be a bit dirty all things considered, but she hasn't even met -- she's also being pretty harsh to those graduated Warriors. And even if the Sorority might have a bunch of secrets you don't know about, you know that Warriors are capable. And that's not just because you look up to them, that's facts! They have to defend Kokkinport all the time, in documented and recorded fights where some even lose their lives sometimes, so to say that most are untrained sex addicts is definitely not fair, you'd say.

"Professor Phoebe's their biggest enemy at Coinpilfer, which is why none- which is why I thought none of us had been approached by them. Has a real vendetta against them, for whatever reason. She's normally focused on keeping the students under her care safe from them behind the scenes, to the point where apparently the Sorority normally just leaves her class on their own. I'm surprised they came up to you at all."

Lexi sighs, and stops to turn around in the vent and face you. Your faces are right up close to each other, so she gives your nose a little affectionate nuzzling eskimo kiss and then scooches backwards through the vent.

"Hey, look, I know I've got a lot to say about them, but it's just.... something that's a huge goal of mine. To deal with them, I mean. So, I'll understand if you don't want to help me out here, or if you think I'm being crazy, or getting it all wrong. I'll try not to get between you and them if you don't want me to. And I'll do my best to not let them get between you and me." She says. "I just.... didn't see this coming. That's all. I talk a lot when I'm trying to figure things out, so I'm sorry about that. I know I can be a handful."

She reaches forward, and pats the small grate in the vent floor between the two of you.

"This is what I wanted to show you. It's a room that's on the university's blueprints, but not on any of their maps. It's supposed to be linked to the Sorority in some way." She says. "Let's check it out together, okay? We can figure out the difficult stuff later."

You peer down through the grate at the room below. You really like Lexi, which is why you wanted to be honest and upfront with her. You're as determined as she is to not let this stuff get between the two of you. But should you really go down there? What if somebody from the Sorority catches you snooping?

Well.....
