Tell Chloe to stand up for herself

"Hey, is everything okay?" you say and sit down on the couch, next to Tatiana. Eve and Chloe are on the opposite couch.

"Oh, hi. No, not really. I had this god-awful dinner date the other day with this guy I matched with on Tinder. He was supposed to be this big shot business consultant , but he turned out to be a complete dud. He was more interested in talking about himself than asking me any questions. And to top it off, he showed up to the restaurant wearing an ill-fitted suit with a stained shirt. I was mortified."

"I'm sorry you had to go through that. It's just not acceptable for someone to treat a decent lady like you that way. You deserve better than that, but maybe you should have told him that in clear words," you say.

"So you think I'm just some weak woman who can't stand up for myself," she asks accusingly, taking a sip of her wine.

Chloe pisses you off sometimes. You try to control yourself, breathing slowly.

"No. That's not... That's not what I'm saying. At all."

"Well, I-" Chloe starts, raising her finger.

"Let me finish, please. I just think sometimes people like that need to hear it straight from the horse's mouth when they don't act right. Don't do nothing and then complain about it afterwards."

"I-"

"I mean, you are a strong and independent woman, for sure, but it seems like you would be better off if you actually let men like him know about your - perfectly reasonable - expectations."

Chloe stops protesting, and nods somewhat.

"I appreciate the gesture, but I'm just not sure I see the point. It's not like I'm going to see him again."

"Well, I think it would a) be about time for him to hear and b) terapeutic for you to say it," you reply, clearly agitated.

Your wife gives you a puzzled, but approving look, as if she's seeing a new side of you she likes.

Chloe seems to think it over. "Maybe - and I'm not saying you are - but maybe you are kind of right. I have been furious after some bad dates and kept it to myself."

"Try it, I doubt you'll regret it!" you say.

Chloe surprises you, and comes over to give you a hug.

"Thanks, I guess." she says and kisses you on your cheek.

"Aww," your wife says. "Look who just became best friends!"

Chloe snorts.
