Seeing that she was already nervous about the pairings, Erik pulled Makalya aside to apologize.
"I'm so sorry. Last night... Sayen... she wanted to talk, I thought there was a chance... I drank way too much... and I was stupid... and rude to you."
Makayla felt a little relieved at his explanation.
"I understand, just... you know.... be respectful to... US" she said implying her and Alex.
"I get it. You may want to delete that pic so he won't get the wrong idea."
"Oh no worries, he trusts me," she replied
None too eager to spend much time talking to Gaby, Makayla was glad Dr. Pittman was in their group. She figured she could use the time to pick his mind for ideas on her paper before their meeting later tonight. Her plans were foiled by a phone call.
"Hey Brian," Pitt said, pulling him aside, "Just got a call from the school I have to deal with, you okay on your own?"
"Of course, we'll be fine," Brian responded. "Bianca and I have radios, in addition to phones, if there is any kind of situation."
Dr. Pittman nodded, and headed back into the cabin.
"We have to decide who has the best pace to count off steps," Brian announced.
After some discussion and messing around, it was decided Gaby had the best pace of the group. Although Brian worked to include all members of the group, including handing the compass to Makayla (team building was the point after all) With Gaby leading the pace and Brian having the directions they quickly paired off. That left Makayla to have to keep company with Erik, something that even after his apology, made her nervous.
